Estuary Dreams
you might be wondering?
It is an unforgettable fusion of poetry, spoken word, and experimental film. As part of the
Estuary Festival Anthology
programme, this event showcases powerful new poetry-based films created through the
Creative Estuary
co-commission fund. Allowing the Estuary Dreams project, to create a series of innovative workshops exploring experimental expression on screen.
Alongside these evocative films, some of the finest spoken word poets, performers from across the region (and beyond) will take to the stage, sharing work that captures the spirit, dreams, and voices of the estuary.
Expect a night of vibrant creativity, heartfelt performances, and the unique atmosphere that has made every Words in Chalk event at Metal a sell-out success.

A screening of the classically campy space opera Flash Gordon (1980), part of our 'Cult Classics' series at the Beecroft Cinema Club.
Beecroft Cinema Club presents 'Cult Classics' series, screening the iconic films that fans are frenzied for on the last Thursday of each month at the Beecroft Art Gallery.
In June, we're blasting off to planet Mongo with 'Flash Gordon', a superhero space adventure lauded for it's comic book camp style and now iconic soundtrack by Queen.
Doors open and refreshments will be available from from 6pm and the film will start promptly at 6:30pm. There is no allocated seating.
The film's run time is 1hr 51 minutes.
The film is rated 'PG' and this event is 11+ only.

Come join us for an extraordinary poetry reading! Responders is an integrated performance that focuses on three poets of different backgrounds making connections in the moment. The premise: each poet spontaneously selects poems from their work in response to the catalyst of the previous poem. Gale Burns, Selina Rodrigues and Keith Jarrett are award-winning poets and seasoned performers and hosts. Expect it to be a warm, varied, experimental night. Ten open-mic slots are available - this includes up to five willing poets who wish to participate by reading their own poem in response to any of ours. Please select 'open mic' if you wish to sign up for a slot. Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. There will be a 20-minute interval. ------ About the poets Gale Burns is a founder of the influential Poetry Shuffle reading. He has won international awards for his poetry which has been translated into several languages. Uncover the amazing artefacts and hidden secrets behind Essex's most significant archaeological discovery, the Prittlewell Princely Burial, after hours at Southend Central Museum.
Join us after hours at Southend Central Museum on 19 June, as part of our 'museum lates' event series. Explore the internationally significant 'The Prittlewell Princely Burial' exhibition with a complementary glass of wine, before digging deeper into the history and mystery of the artefacts with expert Robert Sharp.
In this month's talk, hear the amazing story of how the Anglo Saxon burial was found after being hidden for 1500 years, get a closer look at the treasures that were uncovered and try to answer the question 'who actually was the Prittlewell Prince'?
Doors open at 6pm, with an hour for exploring the museum. The talk begins at 6:30pm, and the event finishes by 8pm.
