About the Joy of Living Level 1 Meditation enables us to transform all experiences, even difficult emotions and painful thoughts, into sources of joy. The modern world has become fascinated with the practice of meditation. With all the hype and glossy images on magazine covers, it would be easy to think that meditation is about sitting in the right posture, using a special technique, or forcing the mind to be calm or relaxed all the time. But the real power of meditation isn’t in the method. It’s in shifting our perspective. The key to this shift in perspective is awareness. In this weekend workshop we will learn to transform our experience by exploring sensations, thoughts, emotions, and even awareness itself as supports for meditation. This program offers step-by-step instructions that will benefit those new to meditation and inspire those who have an existing practice. The schedule for this workshop includes video teachings by Mingyur Rinpoche, presentations by Tergar Guide George Hughes, as well as guided meditations and discussion. It is suitable for people of all faiths, as well as both beginning and experienced meditators. When : Saturday, May 31 and Sunday June 1 9am – 5:30pm PST (check-in starts at 8:30am) Cost : Sponsorship fee - $180 Regular fee – $135 Reduced fee for those on a limited income (such as seniors and students) – $80 Special rate for those who have previously completed a Joy of Living 1 workshop, either in-person or online – $80 Please note that no one will be turned away for lack of funds. If the fees listed are challenging, please contact us at communityprograms@tergar.org and we will be happy to offer further discount. Cancellation Policy: Please cancel at least 24 hours in advance so we may have an accurate attendee list. Meet the Guide: George Hughes Beginning his journey into meditation and the wisdom traditions as a teenager, George Hughes has been a practitioner and teacher in several traditions. He found his spiritual home with his root teacher, Mingyur Rinpoche, and has dedicated his life to sharing his profound teachings. In particular, George draws inspiration from the joy, levity, and simplicity of Rinpoche’s approach. George has worked with Mingyur Rinpoche for many years, teaching his Joy of Living and Path of Liberation curriculums around the world, including to groups in the US, Brazil, and Nepal. Additionally, George has taught yoga, massage, and other holistic healing modalities. In addition to his current role on the faculty of Tergar Institute, George has worked with Mingyur Rinpoche on a variety of projects, including guiding a series of treks through the Himalayas to help support Rinpoche’s social engagement projects. George’s passion for the dharma and meditation extends to all aspects of his life. Information Source: Tergar Meditation Community | eventbrite
