Fresh peas from the garden are in season, so we'll add them to this This recipe of peas, toasted pine nuts and fresh mint. It's a really nice combination of flavours, ideal for spring. Vegetable Frittata with Local Cheese and Eggs. It's an egg-bake filled with yummy vegetables, herbs, and a bit of cheese . If you're not a savory breakfast person, it's a quick weeknight dinner option. Maple Mustard Chicken. A sweet and savory sauce made of local maple syrup and local Dijon mustard is the secret to serving the most flavorful chicken thighs. Homemade Strawberry Ice Cream. Homemade strawberry ice cream is so rich and creamy, with an amazing fresh strawberry taste. Its full of local strawberries and local cream and so easy to make! Aromatic and full of flavour it is featured in cuisines around the world. What's on our menu? We'll make a batch of fresh pesto from scratch and then use it on our Pesto Flatbread. We'll also make a sundried tomato and basil cornbread that is delicious as a side to all your summer BBQ favourites. The tourtière dates back to when Quebec was a French settlement, with the most popular version originating in the Saguenay Lac-St-Jean region. Split Pea Soup . Drop in for a casual cafe-style visit where Smex will be serving food and drinks for one day only in Shape on Saturday 28th June. His exhibition ‘It’ll Be Ready When It’s Ready’ will be up on the walls and his cookbook of the same name, where the recipes for the food are taken from, will be available to browse. Your ticket gets you as much soup, sandwiches, salad and snacks as you like and you’ll also get a free print to takeaway. This is the 3rd version of Smex Cafe, a pop up installation combining art and food, since 2017. It started as Smex’s Edinburgh College of Art Degree Show piece and was also an outdoor cafe on the street at Leith Walk Police Box in 2020. About the Exhibition and Cookbook: ‘It’ll Be Ready When It’s Ready’ is Smex’s new exhibition, inspired by his debut riso-printed cookbook of the same name — a playful collection of 75 recipes and 55 hand-drawn illustrations. The show expands on the book’s themes, exploring food culture, home cooking, and daily rituals through drawing, painting, print, and installation. Both the exhibition and cookbook reflect Smex’s fascination with the humour and repetition of everyday life, capturing the art of cooking in all its messy, mundane, and joyful moments.
