The inaugural session of SESIÓN INAUGURAL ➝ Ara la llum cau vertical will feature a talk with the director, Efthymia Zymvragaki, followed by a concert by the renowned Cretan artist, George Xylouris. The event will take place at Can Jeroni in Sant Josep de sa Talaia. The director's journey, both real and cinematic, begins when a man named Ernesto from the Canary Islands contacts her with the desire to make a film about his life. He reveals that he is the aggressor in a case of gender violence, shedding light on the fact that there are always two sides to such situations. As Efthymia embarks on this journey, she uncovers the hidden corners and the nuances of a character trapped in the cycle of violence. In the process, she realizes that Ernesto is both perpetrator and victim, and this forces her to confront her own family history, left behind in Greece two decades ago. Join the IBZCF24 event in Sant Josep de sa Talaia at Can Jeroni on March 3, 2024. This event will feature screenings and Q&A sessions with the directors of Lavadoiro, La panadellala noche eterna, As miçangas, and Hi grandpa. In Lavadoiro, directors Ana Amado and Lois Patiño explore the role of public washhouses in women's domestic work through a multidisciplinary approach. Ana Amado, a Galician architect and photographer, has collaborated with architects Carlos Seoane and David Chipperfield to create an ephemeral and performative intervention. The short film captures the entire process and expands the project to two other washhouses in the area. La Panadella, directed by Joel Jiménez, tells the story of a decaying roadside town in Catalonia, where the employees of Hotel and Restaurante Bayona continue their cyclical routines day and night. In La Noche Eterna, directed by Eneko Sagardoy, Miren begins to pursue Elena after recognizing her on the road. As Miçangas, directed by Emanuel Lavor and Rafaela Camelo, follows two sisters preparing for an abortion in a house surrounded by nature, unaware that there is a snake inside. Finally, Hi, Grandpa, directed by Aleksander Pakulski, portrays a young home nurse torn between caring for a disabled elderly patient and her dying grandfather.
