Firestopping is a topic of great interest to contractors and facility engineering professionals, particularly since fire and smoke barriers are constantly being breeched with new services or cable changes for voice and data systems in modern facilities. With proper planning and training, the firestopping process is greatly simplified, costs are reduced, and facility owners are provided with code-compliant firestop systems, thereby enhancing life safety and property protection. This comprehensive, competency-based course is designed to educate and train participants in the fundamentals needed to become a resident firestop specialist. The goal is to equip the participant with the knowledge and tools needed to return home and serve as a resident expert in confirming whether or not firestop installations are code compliant. This course is non-proprietary to specific brands and as such is accredited with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) for 16 LU/HSW credits, 12 BICSI CECs. Who Should Attend? People who will install, specify, train, inspect or supervise firestop installations. These include contractors, AHJs, architects, engineers, maintenance managers, IS managers, CE managers, IT directors, infectious control managers, life-safety officers, loss reduction specialists and other interested parties. Join MPRG’s Curator Dunja Rmandic in a conversation with exhibiting artists Jo Lloyd and Ponch Hawkes as part of the Know My Name exhibition. This engaging discussion will delve into their artistic practices, explore themes of visibility and legacies, and shed light on the cultural landscape of Australia. Ponch Hawkes, an influential Australian photographer, captures key moments in Australia's cultural and social histories since the 1970s. Through her work, she explores intergenerational relationships, queer identity, LGBTQI+ rights, the female body, masculinity, and women in the workplace. Hawkes often exhibits her photographs as series or multiples, inviting the subjects to actively participate in the process. This approach allows her to delve into how individuals utilize their bodies and relate to one another. One of Hawkes' notable series, "Our mums and us," documents her friends standing alongside their mothers and was first exhibited in 1976. Jo Lloyd, a Melbourne-based dance artist, approaches choreography as a social encounter. Her practice challenges the limits of history, form, and aesthetic, seeking to find a language that transcends these boundaries. Lloyd's work has been showcased nationally and internationally, including in Japan and New Zealand. As part of the Know My Name exhibition, Lloyd created the film and live work "Archive the Archive," which pays homage to Melbourne choreographer Phillipa Cullen. This powerful piece focuses on Cullen's extraordinary contemporary dance practice, tragically cut short by her untimely death. Don't miss the opportunity to gain insights into the artistic journeys of these talented artists.

Join the Wikipedia Edit-a-thon: Making women count event at Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery (MPRG) to gain valuable insights from Wikipedia facilitators on how to edit the Wiki and enhance the representation of women and gender diverse artists. This event is part of the National Gallery's Know My Name initiative, in collaboration with Wikimedia Australia, aimed at increasing the visibility of women and gender diverse artists. The current statistics show that only around 19% of Wikipedia biographies are about women, and the numbers are even lower for women artists and creators. An Edit-a-thon is a public gathering where participants come together to learn the art of editing Wikipedia. During the event, training sessions will be conducted, and all attendees will have the opportunity to contribute to the common theme of increasing the representation of women and gender diverse artists. Wikipedia, known as the largest and most-read wiki in history, is a collaborative platform where users can add and edit content. The term "wiki" originates from the Hawaiian word 'wiki wiki,' meaning fast. To fully participate in the Edit-a-thon, please bring your own laptop, and the Wikipedia facilitator will provide all the necessary guidance and knowledge. Don't miss this chance to be a part of a movement that promotes inclusivity and diversity in the arts. Secure your spot at the free Wikipedia Edit-a-thon: Making women count event at MPRG by booking in advance. Let us know to expect you at the event, as together, we can make a difference in the representation of women and gender diverse artists on Wikipedia.
