Sarah MacLean returns to Bookmarks on Thursday, July 10 to celebrate her new book These Summer Storms ! This new novel follows a wealthy New England family who face a long-overdue reckoning during the span of one week on their private island. Renée Ahdieh will join as Sarah MacLean's conversation partner. Tickets are $30 (plus taxes & fees) and include access to the event and a hardcover copy of These Summer Storms . Attendees can get copies of These Summer Storms signed & personalized, and other backlist titles signed. Renée Ahdieh will also sign books after the talk. Have any questions? Check out our Event FAQs page and email events@bookmarksnc.org for further inquiries. About the Book Alice Storm hasn’t been welcome at her family’s magnificent private island off the Rhode Island coast in five years—not since she was cast out and built her life beyond the Storm name, influence, and untold billions. But the shocking death of her larger-than-life father changes everything. Alice plans to keep her head down, pay her final respects (such as they are), and leave the minute the funeral is over. Unfortunately, her father had other plans. The eccentric, manipulative patriarch left his family a final challenge—an inheritance game designed to upend their world. The rules are clear: spend one week on the island, complete their assigned tasks, and receive the inheritance. But a whole week on Storm Island is no easy task for Alice. Every corner of the sprawling old house is bursting with chaos: Her older sister’s secret love affair. Her brother’s unyielding arrogance. Her younger sister’s constant analysis of the vibes . Her mother’s cold judgment. And all under the stern, watchful gaze of Jack Dean, her father’s intriguing and too-handsome second-in-command. It will be a miracle if Alice manages to escape unscathed. A smart and tender story about the transformative power of grief, love, and family, this luscious novel explores past secrets, present truths, and futures forged in the wake of wild summer storms. About the Authors Sarah MacLean is the author of bestselling novels that have been translated into more than twenty-five languages. The co-host of the weekly romance novel podcast, Fated Mates, she is a leading voice in the romance genre and on the national leadership team of Authors Against Book Bans . A product of Rhode Island summers and New England storms, Sarah now lives in New York City. Renée Ahdieh is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In her spare time, she likes to dance salsa and collect shoes. She is passionate about all kinds of curry, rescue dogs, and college basketball. The first few years of her life were spent in a high-rise in South Korea; consequently, Renée enjoys having her head in the clouds. She and her family live in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is the #1 New York Times and internationally bestselling author of the Wrath and the Dawn series, the Flame in the Mist series, and The Beautiful quartet. Tickets are $35 (plus taxes & fees) and include admission to the event, one copy of the book, and one drink. Additional copies of Lisa Scottoline's books will be for sale at the event, and there will be a book signing following the talk. It is held at a mid-size venue (usually on the Arts Council campus), and the ticket price includes a copy of the featured book along with a drink. In recent years, we've hosted Murder & Margaritas with Harlan Coben, Alex Michaelides, and Lisa Jewell. Learn more about other event series here ! About the Book In “a delicious escape that blends suspense, atmosphere, and heart" (Danielle Trussoni), #1 international bestselling author Lisa Scottoline crafts a sweeping gothic tale in which a young widow, emotionally distraught after the shocking death of her husband, inherits a Tuscan estate from a mysterious benefactor and finds herself thrust into the crosshairs of a dangerous conspiracy. Twisty, transportive, and haunting—this is suspense with a passport. Lately, Julia Pritzker is beginning to think she’s cursed. She’s lost her adoptive parents, then her husband is murdered. When she realizes that her horoscope essentially foretold his death, she begins to spiral. She fears her fate is written in the stars, not held in her own hands. Then a letter arrives out of the blue, informing her that she has inherited a Tuscan villa and vineyard —but her benefactor is a total stranger named Emilia Rossi. Julia has no information about her biological family, so she wonders if Rossi could be a blood relative. Bewildered, she heads to Tuscany for answers. There, Julia is horrified to discover that Rossi was a paranoid recluse with delusions of grandeur, who believed herself to be a descendent of Duchess Caterina Sforza, a legendary Renaissance ruler. Julia is stunned by her uncanny resemblance to Rossi, and even to Caterina. Then she unearths eerie parallels between them, including an obsession with astrology. Before long, Julia suspects she’s being followed, and strange things begin to happen. Not even a chance meeting with a handsome Florentine can ease her disturbed mind. When events turn deadly, she breaks with reality. Julia’s harrowing struggle becomes a search for her identity, a race to save her sanity, and ultimately, a question of her very survival. About the Author Lisa Scottoline is a #1 bestselling and Edgar Award-winning author of 37 novels. She also wrote and a series of humorous memoirs, co-authored with her daughter, novelist Francesca Serritella. Lisa is President of Mystery Writers of America and she reviews fiction for the New York Times , Washington Post , and The Philadelphia Inquirer . A former trial lawyer, she graduated magna cum laude in three years from the University of Pennsylvania and cum laude from its law school, where she taught Justice & Fiction. There are 30 million copies of her books in print, and she is published in 35 countries. She lives on a Pennsylvania farm with an array of disobedient pets, and she wouldn’t have it any other way. Bookmarks is pleased to be hosting Georgann Eubanks for a conversation on her latest book, The Fabulous Ordinary: Discovering the Natural Wonders of the Wild South ! Join us for this free event to hear more about the wonders of the natural world occurring in our own backyards. Georgann will be in conversation with Jessica Mendez Rowe from the Piedmont Environmental Alliance . Purchase a copy of the book with your registration or pick up a copy next time you're in the bookstore! We'll have books available for purchase at the event, and the author will be doing a signing after the talk. Have any questions? Check out our Event FAQs page and email events@bookmarksnc.org for further inquiries. About the Book Georgann Eubanks offers readers a tour of the seasonal joys of ecosystems in the Southeast. The ordinary destinations and events she explores are scattered across seven states and include such wonders as a half-million purple martins roosting on an island in a South Carolina lake, the bloom of thirty acres of dimpled trout lilies in a remote Georgia forest, gnat larvae that glow like stars on the rock walls of an obscure Alabama canyon, and the overnight accumulation of elaborately patterned moths on the side of a North Carolina mountain cabin. These phenomena and others reveal how plants, mammals, amphibians, and insects are managing to persevere despite pressures from human invasion, habitat destruction, and climate change. Their stories also shine a light on the efforts of dedicated scientists, volunteers, and aspiring young naturalists who are working to reverse losses and preserve the fabulous ordinary that’s still alive in the fields, forests, rivers, and coastal estuaries of this essential and biodiverse region. About the Author Georgann Eubanks is a writer, Emmy-winning documentarian, and founder of the Table Rock Writers Workshop, held annually in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
