ONN works to create a public policy environment that strengthens nonprofits so they can do more. They activate nonprofit networks by convening and engaging organizations, leaders, and stakeholders to tackle cross-cutting issues at a sector-wide level. (CDCD)
CDCD has been empowering Individuals, supporting families, and strengthening Durham for more than 50 years. Their mission is to identify regional community development needs and inform relevant policy and programming while supporting and delivering effective services.
Durham Nonprofit Network (DNN)
Launched in 2023, the Durham Non-Profit Network (DNN) is a collaborative of nonprofit organizations committed to working together to serve and strengthen the communities of Durham Region. As an umbrella entity, DNN intends to advocate for and support the nonprofit sector by fostering partnerships with local and regional governments, the corporate sector, funders, professional associations, institutions, and individuals.
DNN was co-developed by ten founding organizations, with the Community Development Council Durham (CDCD) playing the lead and anchor agency role. Since its inception, CDCD has provided the backbone support stewarding this emerging network through its formative stages.
Over the past months, DNN has been laying the foundational base for its long-term success. A strategic plan was developed through an inclusive and participatory process that included focus groups and a strategic planning workshop, with input from nonprofit organizations and representatives from the Region of Durham. In addition, an operational plan was created through a competitive Request for Proposals (RFP) process, as a framework for its strategic plan implementation. Thus, DNN poised to embark on its journey as a regional network in Durham Region to pursue its mission. DNN has adopted as its mission to support Durham’s nonprofits by fostering connection, sharing resources and expertise, and promoting collective action.
