* This ticket is for Day 1: Drawing the Portrait* Have you always wanted to paint a self-portrait and don't know where to start and how to do it? Or, you know how to draw, but haven't figured how to begin the painting process? Or, you just want to create a portrait for a loved one, but need some inspiration and extra guidance? Workshop DetailsIn terms of subjects, painting portraits is one of the most challenging and rewarding. This 2-day workshop will introduce you to the medium of acrylic painting on portrait. Some experience is recommended but not required. After this 8-hour workshop, you will gain an understanding of composition, value and colors while learning how to execute a portrait from beginning to end. To take advantage of the entire portrait curriculum, we recommend attending both workshops in the same weekend. DAY 1: DRAWING THE PORTRAIT.After selecting a good reference photo to work on, we will discuss composition, delve into value and why it is important to create representational art. After that, we will paint a black and white portrait that focuses on value before we move into colors, which will be on Day 2. Day 2. DAY 2: PAINTING THE PORTRAIT. Before painting the portrait in color, we will discuss color theory. After that, a demonstration of diverse color palette for different skin tones. You will explore color mixing and watch the master artist execute the portrait from start to finish. Of this, $1.17 million will be distributed to 299 Grantees and $653,000 will be allocated to 79 Teaching Artists for 104 older adult center and in-school residencies. This year marks the largest number of grants distributed by BAC—a 7.2% increase from 2024—with 29% of funding recipients being first-time BAC Grantees. By attending this event, you give Brooklyn Arts Council permission to use your name, likeness, image, voice, or appearance in any photos, video recordings, audio tapes, digital images, and the like, taken or made on behalf of Brooklyn Arts Council.
