Experience the joy of reading with Het Nationale Theater's event, "Lezen met HNT: Brown Sugar Baby". Over the course of two evenings, immerse yourself in the entire play script and delve into the fascinating background of this production. Every theatrical performance begins with a script, and in this case, it's a swinging and thrilling comedy about an Indisch jazz band during the turbulent final days of the Dutch colony. Directed by Eric de Vroedt, this captivating show features eleven talented musicians and actors, including Hein van der Heijden, Esther Scheldwacht, and Mariana Aparicio. Set in 1935 at the Hotel der Nederlanden in Batavia, Nederlands-Indië, the Indische family band, Brown's Sugar Babies, prepares for the grand finale of a jazz competition. However, backstage mishaps threaten to derail their performance. With a missing vocalist, last-minute drummer replacement, and a lost younger sister, chaos ensues. Meanwhile, the hotel is bustling with shady characters. As problems escalate, bandleader Kurt goes to great lengths to save the show. Don't miss this mesmerizing production!
