They assist counsel in identifying issues related to the collection, production, and management of electronically stored information (ESI, or also known as e-discovery or eDiscovery) and digital evidence. They provide technology, training, and resources for CJA panel counsel and Federal Defender Organization (FDO) team members to efficiently search, review, and analyze eDiscovery and digital evidence. The NLST also serves as a resource to the Defender Services program to assist in the long-range planning required to address issues relevant to the ever-evolving eDiscovery practices and policies. For CJA panel attorneys, the NLST is your consultant, your resource center, and your sounding board for all litigation support aspects of your case from beginning to end. They are here to support both you and FDOs throughout the country. Whether you are considering what formats to request your discovery in, how to manage the eDiscovery you have received, or what type of technology you might like to use in the courtroom, they can help you figure out how to leverage technology to develop and present your theory of the case on behalf of your client. Justin Rosas: Justin Rosas is based in Medford, Oregon. He graduated from the University of Kentucky School of Law in 2006 and became a state public defender in Medford for the next six years. Justin is a member of the CJA panel and has tried more than 100 cases to a jury. He is a member of the Faculty of the Oregon Trial Skills College (hosted by OCDLA), has served as Chair of the State Professional Responsibility Committee and has prosecuted bar violations against prosecutors for the Oregon State Bar Association. During the pandemic, he helped Colin Kaepernick's Know Your Rights Foundation find attorneys for protestors around the Country. Dave Faherty: David Faherty is Managing Attorney of the National Immigrant Justice Center’s Adult Detention Project. Based in Chicago, Dave provides legal representation to detained immigrants in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals. As part of NIJC’s Defender Initiative Program, Dave advises federal and state public defenders on the immigration consequences of criminal convictions. Dave previously worked as a staff attorney at the Board of Immigration Appeals and the Chicago Immigration Court. Before law school, he worked at the Open Society Foundations and was a teaching fellow in Malaysia with Princeton-in-Asia. Larry Komp: Larry Komp received his law degree from Washington University of St. Louis in 1992.
