This walk begins at the Whitehorse Fishladder, where Chinook Salmon must navigate around the Whitehorse Dam after swimming almost 3,000 km upriver on route to their spawning areas. Join fisheries biologist Elizabeth MacDonald, vice-chair of the Yukon Salmon Sub-Committee, to learn about salmon ecology, habitat, and how the dam has changed their journey.  This event involves walking up to 5 km on the paved Millennium trail. Welcome to the Yukon Paddling Championships - Flatwater North Sprint Club ! Get ready to witness some thrilling races at the beautiful Schwatka Lake Day Use Area . Cheer on your favorite paddlers as they compete for glory on the water. Whether you're a seasoned paddling enthusiast or just looking for some outdoor fun, this event is open to paddlers of all ages and skill levels. Don't miss out on the excitement - mark your calendars now! Additional Details: • Race distances for all sprint kayak, canoe, SUP, and marathon boats range from 200m, 500m, to 1500m, including 500m team boat events. *Enjoy a fun 100m "try a sprint boat race" segment. • The event concludes with a kayak relay and a Recreational Canoe C4 race. • Our club can provide all the gear needed to race . This week on our neighbourhood nature walk, we’ll explore the wonderful world of water on a walk behind the Wolf Creek subdivison. We'll start along a lush creek and climb a small ridge offering a picturesque view over a wetland and look for a family of ducks and other waterbirds before looping back to the trailhead. This event involves walking up to 4 km on undulating single-track and ATV trails with two short but steep hills. Time: 7 to 8:30 pm Cost: free Location: Meet at the trail entrance on Harbottle Road, roughly halfway between Boss Road and Langholz Road, in the Wolf Creek subdivision (on the southwest side of the highway). With an emphasis on collaboration, this course will give participants a strong understanding of the role of the Producer from initial idea development to final distribution. Geared towards the production of short narrative films, the course  will cover the basics of production management and teach participants to break down scripts for budgeting and teach participants how to analyze a script, identify potential production challenges, and develop a basic production plan.  This workshop will also touch on contract negotiations, and the legal aspects of securing rights for a project. Workshop participants will gain skills in budgeting, an introduction to managing set, crew, and production issues, and an overview of leadership skills essential for producers. Registration is capped after the first 8 teams that sign up per division. We'll be following 3v3 FIBA rules and there will be a $400 cash prize for each division. Double elimination. Registration is $10 per player . The divisions are: Youth (ages 14 - 18) and Open (ages 19 & up). We'll also be hosting a " Monarch of the Court" which will feature hand picked well-known yukon hoopers for an intense 20 minute 1v1. Semi finals, Finals, and the Monarch of the Court will be recorded and posted online. Steps to Register: Form your own team (3 - 5 players) Select a division (players can't join both) Select as many tickets as players that are on your team. (TIP: please get one person to purchase all tickets for your team to help us keep everything organised) Add your names and team name to the ticket purchase.
