Each month we read a fantasy novel by a local author. Join us at Lock Street Brewing Company in St Catharines as we discuss what we've read this month! Included in your registration fee is a pint of beer, a glass of wine, or a feature cocktail based on what we've read this month. Food and bar service will be available during the event. Our September book is The Gossamer Mage by Julie Czerneda, a dark fantasy novel that won the Prix Aurora Award for Best Novel (2020). The book is available at Thistle Bookshop and Cafe located at 50 Lakeport Road in St Catharines. This book club meets in the Lounge at Lock Street Brewing Company, a private second-floor space. On book club days, Lock Street Brewing Company offers $5 shots and a $3 discount on all hotdogs and french fries. Her debut album 'My European Journey', released in 2021, was described as "a superb debut" by BBC Music Magazine. Earlier this year she had a 43-concert tour of North America as part of the ‘International Guitar Night’ show, and looks forward to returning to Canada for a solo tour this September. The presence of music education in schools is something that Alexandra has been passionate about since having the opportunity to take her first formal guitar lesson at the age of eight. In addition to giving masterclasses at music colleges around Europe, she also enjoys holding regular workshops and presentations in schools with the aim of involving more young people from diverse backgrounds in classical music. Working alongside the London-based publishing house Camden Music, Alexandra released her first publication, 'A European Journey', in 2023. Aimed at beginner to intermediate-level guitarists, the book comprises a selection of popular and lesser-known 19th-century European guitar works. Her latest release includes selected pieces by the English composer Ernest Shand. Alexandra began her studies at Chetham's School of Music at the age of eleven, where she now teaches alongside her former professor. She went on to gain a scholarship to study with Michael Lewin at the Royal Academy of Music in London and graduated with both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
