Our Saturday longer rides take place on three Saturdays each month and will be on a mix of on-road sections and traffic-free riding. Meet up is at Owler Ings Car Park, Owler Ings Road, Brighouse HD6 1EJ. Please bring money for around 3 hours parking if needed. We will be riding approximately 12-14 miles as a round trip. You need to be confident cycling on roads in traffic, but these sections will be managed by the ride leaders. The route is mainly on towpath and mostly flat. Rides are led by two qualified ride leaders, Kate and Jane, who will manage the traffic as we ride on-road. Bring a bike lock and money for a cafe stop. As we are away from our premises, we won’t be able to bring a bike for anyone, so you will need to have your own roadworthy bike to complete this ride. In its time the majority of premier band championships have been held by ‘Briggus’, most recently becoming National Champion Band of Great Britain in 2017, whilst the band has also attracted a formidable reputation for highly entertaining concerts for both the general public and brass band connoisseur. The ever popular Brighouse and Rastrick Band caught the ears and imagination of the British public with their recording of “The Floral Dance” holding the No.2 position in the British singles chart for 9 weeks. Even though they were held off the top spot by Paul McCartney, they still achieved sales of over a million, earning both Gold and Silver discs. ‘The Floral Dance’ has now become a permanent feature of the band’s programs as the ‘unofficial’ encore. Over recent years the band has been engaged in a number of very successful music collaborations, outside the brass band tradition, including Kate Rusby, BBC Radio 2 Folk award winners The Unthanks and classical actor Simon Callow. It is still true to say that no other public subscription band has held such high status for as long as the Brighouse and Rastrick Band! Please ensure that you have read and understood the rider manual on the website (www.queensmoot.co.uk). QueensMoot is a cycling adventure like no other, for women only, featuring 10 checkpoints scattered across diverse and scenic locations, near and far. Participants will be self-sufficient and have the freedom to chart their own course, starting at any time they choose from the event opening at 7pm on 21st June, to 5pm on 22nd June, visiting as many or as few checkpoints as they wish. The goal is to navigate back to the starting point, arriving within a 2-hour window between 6 PM and 8 PM on Sunday 22nd June.
