Dead Root Revival with special guest Brock Zeman! | Civitan Club
Nov 8, 2024 (UTC-5)ENDED
Smiths Falls
http://www.brockzeman.com When it comes to storytelling, Brock Zeman is a master craftsman. The Canada-based singer-songwriter has spent the past 12 years carving and chiseling Americana soundscapes, drawing from roots-rock and alternative country. But what separates Zeman from his contemporaries isn’t a willingness to speak truth – it’s his unwillingness to conform to the rules of Nashville and the traditional framework of genre. What gives Zeman’s stories force isn’t that he’s just singing a narrative – he’s living it. Brock-Zeman-photo-by-Jamie-KronickOver the course of his career, Zeman has released 12 studio albums, one live record, toured North America extensively and received praise from numerous press outlets. “His songs have more depth than can be realized first time through, which only enhances with each listen,” wrote Penguin Eggs. Zeman has also won a slew of songwriting awards, including 2nd place at both 2016’s Unsigned Only Competition as well as the International Songwriting Competition (ISC) for his track “Pulling Your Sword Out Of The Devil’s Back.” In 2017 he returned to ISC as a finalist with his song “Dead Man’s Shoes.” “I was inspired to write from the feeling I got when I listened to music,” Zeman recalls about his childhood. “I always hoped I could pass on the same overwhelming feeling to others.” Beginning his career as a punk rocker, Zeman’s musical tastes gradually expanded to a love for country, bluegrass and roots. After years of experimentation, and with the help of longtime collaborator Blair Hogan, he carved a place for himself in the realm of Americana. His discography spans 12 albums – plus one live record – over 12 years, including his most recent releases: The Carnival is Back in Town (2017), Pulling Your Sword Out of the Devil’s Back (2015) and Rotten Tooth (2013). With an acoustic guitar and rhaspy voice, à la Greg Brown, Tom Waits and Mickey Newbury, Zeman has managed to preserve the DIY ethos of his punk rock upbringing. He’s an engineer and producer who not only tracks his own material, but has recorded other artists in his Ontario studio (called The Big Muddy), including Nashville troubadour David Olney. http://www.deadrootrevival.ca
Facebook Instagram Bandcamp Spotify What people are saying about Dead Root Revival: A totally mesmerizing immersive experience. Go see these guys. - Paul Gervan Dead Root Revival weave a spell. This is a collection of exceptional musicians at the top of their game. Beyond great songwriting and playing, what struck me when I saw them again last week, was the sound. Every instrument holds a perfect spot in the arrangements and there is just so much musicality to sink your teeth into. Go see them dammit, you won't be sorry! -Stephen Stanley(singer-songwriter, fmr Lowest of The Low) “Now if, like me, you are head over heels in love with the Hammond Organ, then you need to set those eyes towards the burning bliss that is The Controller’s Exam, the new record from Ontario’s DEAD ROOT REVIVAL whose combustible grooves and rhythms hark back to a golden age of music long lost to the annals of history. This record has set my soul aflame” - Motorfuzzin' Mondays To describe their music as a single genre would be a gross injustice to the band. They had elements of Blues, Rock, Hard Rock, Jazz all mixed and molded into one. It was one of the most interesting acts I’ve seen in a while -Soundcheck Entertainment“ There certainly is a bit of timeless, bluesy, ‘70s-inspired funk in this Kingston-based band’s sound, recognizable for what it is while at the same time new and not overly steeped in nostalgia like other acts hitting your radio in the past few years.” - A Journal of Musical Things

Derek Seguin-"Canada's Top Comic!"...SiriusXM. Station Theatre Smiths Falls | Smiths Falls Community Theatre
Apr 10, 2025 (UTC-5)ENDED
Smiths Falls
Canada's Top Comic ... Sirius XM Undeniably, One of Canada's Hottest Comedians ... CBC The Unmaksed and Uncensored Tour. This show contains adult content. The Station Theatre Smiths Falls Thursday April 10th, 7:30 pm. Derek plays some of the biggest theatres and festivals in the country, but we like to present shows in small towns. Don't tell anyone, they're just more fun! You guys are always great! We will have a local brewery supply beer for sale that evening. We like to support local and we like beer! Looking forward to seeing you Smith's Falls and having a local beer with you! Come out for an evening with a world class comic and laugh your cares away. Presented by Zapp! Productions. 33 years of presenting World Class Entertainment. www.zapp-productions.com Derek Seguin is one of the most sought after stand-up comedians on the international circuit. He has performed at the prestigious invitation-only Just For Laughs festival an impressive 11 times as well as appearing numerous times at every other major festival in the country, making several television appearances along the way. At a past Just for Laughs festival, GQ Magazine’s Comedy Editor reported about JFL that: “Montreal-comic Derek Seguin stole one of the most star-studded gala shows last year . This year, he appeared in The Nasty Show and proceeded to steal that too. A true star and Montreal's pride and joy.” That from host Whitney Cummings The Montreal Gazette enthused that: “Derek Seguin earned a standing ovation for his set during the ninth Just for Laughs gala … had me gasping for air, I was laughing so hard at the detailing of his second date with his Newfoundland girlfriend. ... What made it great, however, was not the boldness of his material but that he described it all in such childlike wonder. Brilliant.” He has also appeared on CBC Radio’s, “The Debaters” more than forty times and is one of the show’s fan favourites. Undeniably one of Canada’s hottest comedians, he fittingly walked away with the top prize of Sirius XM’s Canada’s Top Comic competition a few years ago; a contest that spanned the entire country with finalists from every major city. In March 2021, it was announced that Derek’s latest Album, PanDerek - 1st Wave had been nominated for a Juno award. Yet another milestone in an illustrious and hilarious career. Whether he’s ragging on politics or describing life with his children, he brings us into his perspective without preaching any selfish point of view. His undeniable charm makes him simply fun to watch and listen to and is in large part why he is one of Canada’s most “in demand” comedians. The quintessential performer, Derek is a stand-up comedian, actor, host, narrator, voice actor and most importantly, father of 3 beautiful children… and all this, in both English and French (especially the “papa” part). A consummate professional, Derek is at home on stage in a comedy club, conference centre, theatre, arena, school or arts centre. He tailors his sets for all audiences and can work clean or filthy. There is no evening that won’t be livened up by the addition of Derek’s natural charm, honed comedic genius and warm, witty banter.
