Join us to explore some fantastic trails across South Wales in the safety of a guided, group trail run. All runs are led at a relaxed, social pace and are a great way to meet like-minded people and explore new areas. Trail running adventure: the three castles trail run This is a fantastic trail running adventure taking in three well known castles in South Wales. We first did this route in 2021 and runners loved it. We start at Caerphilly Castle, work our way up to Caerphilly mountain, over hilltops towards Castell Coch, and then drop down to trails that will take us back to the city centre and Cardiff Castle. When: Sunday 13th October 2024. Time: Meet at 09:20 for an 09.30am start. Meeting: The run starts at Caerphilly Castle and finishes at Cardiff Castle. Depending on where you’re coming from, you will need to plan your journey to and from the start/finish points. For most runners, this will mean catching a train in one direction (either to the start or from the finish back to the start). Email with more info sent to runners nearer the time. Distance: 14 miles, 1,250ft ascent. Duration: approximately 3.5 to 4 hours. Terrain: A mix. And while the route is mostly trail, there is some tarmac, including the Taff Trail, for small sections of the run. Difficulty: Moderate to challenging if you’re new to trail running and want to give it a go; easy to moderate if you’re a bit more experienced. There are a few climbs involved, but these can be walked or run. Pace: We run as a group at a relaxed, sociable pace. There’ll be plenty of stops along the way. Kit: As it’s October, we recommend runners bring the following: Jacket (recommend waterproof)Spare, warm layer (to be kept in running pack)Trail shoesGloves, buff and beanieFully charged mobile phone1 litre of water (minimum) and snacksA running pack or small rucksack to carry some of the items listed above. We also recommend you bring a spare bag with dry clothes to change into after your run. All routes are fully reccied and risk assessed. F AQs: Answers to the most commonly asked questions about our guided group runs are on the Trail Nation website here.
