This walk begins at the Whitehorse Fishladder, where Chinook Salmon must navigate around the Whitehorse Dam after swimming almost 3,000 km upriver on route to their spawning areas. Join fisheries biologist Elizabeth MacDonald, vice-chair of the Yukon Salmon Sub-Committee, to learn about salmon ecology, habitat, and how the dam has changed their journey.  This event involves walking up to 5 km on the paved Millennium trail. The second day will be a hands-on workshop building advanced lighting and camera setups. Instructor Kaayla Whachell - IMDB Kaayla Whachell is an Associate Member of the Canadian Society of Cinematographers. She is also co-chair of the CSC’s Diversity Committee. Kaayla’s first feature film, Portraits from a Fire, directed by Trevor Mack, won her “Best Cinematography” at the 2022 Leo Awards. Kaayla is known for her work on I’m Just Here for the Riot, an ESPN 30 for 30 directed by Kat Jayme and Asia Youngman. As a woman of mixed descent (Okinawan, Red River Metis, Czech), Kaayla continues to ally BIPOC filmmakers by showcasing their stories. Moccasin Making By Deb Enoch - iBead with Deb E --- Saturday, April 26th - 10AM-3PM (Doors @ ~9:45AM) AND Sunday April 27th - 10AM-3PM (Doors @ ~9:45AM) Artists’ Studio, Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre, Whitehorse YT --- Join Deb Enoch - iBead with Deb E - for this two day Moccasin Making workshop as part of the 2025 Awaken Festival presented by Gwaandak Theatre! Build Yukon style moccasins made from patterns handed down from family. Cabochons will be provided for participants who are learning to bead using the one needle technique, while those who have beaded before are welcome to use their own patterns on the vamps. (Cabochons are various pictures in a plastic dome.) Moccasins will be lined with Sherpa material and trimmed with beaver fur. Participants will need to submit their standard shoe size (for example, Womens Size 7, Mens Size 5.5, etc.), and should include their foot size in inches / centimetres when registering to help size out the lining and hide in advance of the workshop. Participants are encouraged to bring their own pair of sharp scissors and a thimble if they need it, as well as a packed lunch for each day. Knee-High Nature programs are specifically designed to introduce little ones and their caregivers to plants, animals and their habitats. YWITT presents: Vehicle Maintenance and Roadside Preparedness Maintaining your vehicle and dealing with unexpected issues while on the road can be stressful if you don't know where to find the information or what gear to aquire. June's T4T Shop Time welcomes allied heavy duty mechanic instructor, Amber Wally, to walk us through some of the basics around vehicle maintenance. She will advise participants on what you should know about whats under your hood, how to find useful information in your user manual, and what tools and supplies to keep on hand to feel more confident on long drives. We will do a tire change, share resources, and give everyone a chance to poke around under their own hoods and ask questions. All tools, supplies, PPE and a demonstration vehicle will be provided. Please wear layers in case it is cooler, and clothes that can get dirty. Additional things you could bring to the workshop: your main vehicle, your vehicles fluids, your user manual, your emergency and or tire changing kit. This workshop is designed specifically for Two-Spirit, transgender and gende non-conforming folks to gather and share knowledge. All experience levels are welcome. YWITT is dedicated to providing financially accessibile learning opportunities for community members who traditionally experience barriers to trades skills. This program is offered by donation, and any money that is earned will go directly back into the continuation of T4T Shop Time and programs like it. Ecstatic Dance is a free-form, un-choreographed dance practice where participants move to music without specific steps, focusing on present-moment awareness and expressing emotions through movement, in a safe, sacred, and sober environment. Our new initiative is open to all levels and people. The evenings will be facilitated by dancers from the Collective on a rotation.
