The EASTdiscourses public talks series, titled 'EASTinternational: Unpacking the Archive', is an accompanying event to the exhibition of the same name. This exhibition is the first installment of a series that aims to dive into the legacies, networks, and impact of the previous EASTinternational exhibitions. Norwich University of the Arts has undertaken the task of cataloguing and digitizing an extensive collection of materials related to these exhibitions. The purpose of this endeavor is to recognize the significance of the archive and make it accessible to students and researchers. The archive encompasses a diverse range of items, including artists' editions, exhibition catalogues, publications, conference texts, artistic and curatorial documents, correspondence, works on paper, audio-visual materials, and digital resources. Rather than presenting a definitive account of EASTinternational, this exhibition raises fundamental questions about the role of archives and their potential. It encourages visitors to consider how we can reimagine our engagement with archives to create new connections between the past, present, and future. In the upcoming talk, Jonathan P. Watts will stimulate dialogue on the process of documenting and archiving cultural projects, as well as how these archives can be brought to life. Don't miss this opportunity to explore the fascinating world of art and its archival significance. The EASTdiscourses | 'EASTinternational: Staff Selects' talk will take place on December 9th, 2023, at the East Gallery located in Norwich, specifically at Saint Andrews Street, Norwich, NR2 4AE. Admission is free for all interested attendees.
