His ability to transform the cello into a one-man orchestra using loop pedals and electronic devices adds another layer of richness to his performance.
Ian Maksin's musical journey began in Leningrad, USSR, where he absorbed the cultures and traditions of his multinational family. After studying at the School for Gifted Children in Leningrad, Maksin continued his education at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music in New York City. Drawing inspiration from his extensive travels and collaborations with local musicians, Maksin infuses his original compositions with flavors of ethnic music from Mongolia, West Africa, the Middle East, the Balkans, and Andalusian flamenco.
In this era of turmoil and uncertainty, Maksin's Cello for Peace Tour is a beacon of hope. A portion of the proceeds from ticket and CD sales will be donated to humanitarian relief funds, aiding civilians affected by war.
