Join MAKE Southwest member SarahB in an informative workshop, titled "Stitch Rectangles of Cloth and Master your Sewing Machine," where participants will gain a strong grasp of sewing machine basics. Through practical demonstrations, Sarah will guide attendees in utilizing MAKE Southwest's top-of-the-line Janome machines to their full potential. Participants can expect to enhance their sewing skills, build sewing confidence, and expand their knowledge on various aspects of machine operation. This comprehensive workshop covers an array of topics, including stitch tension, sewing feet, machine functions (such as sewing a buttonhole, dropping the feed dog, utilizing the free-arm, and exploring multiple stitch types), presser-foot pressure, bobbin winding, and different fabric and seam types. Throughout the day, attendees will create beautiful projects, such as a tote bag with french seams, a zip pouch bag with embroidery, and a belt, among other potential samples. The workshop will commence with engaging discussions using demonstration samples as visual aids. Participants are encouraged to tailor the program according to their skill level. All necessary materials will be provided, including thread, zips, buckles, and fabric, although individuals are welcome to bring their own fabric if they have specific preferences. Other tools, such as pins, fabric scissors, and a tape measure, are recommended, but can be provided if necessary. Complimentary tea and coffee will be available, but participants are advised to bring a packed lunch as it will not be provided. The workshop will be held at MAKE Southwest in Bovey Tracey, with parking available at the Methodist Church car park and Station Road car park. Join us on November 15, 2023, at MAKE Southwest for an enriching sewing experience.
