A Westside Experiment Young Actors Laboratory Summer 2024 is an exciting opportunity for students in Grades 5-8, 9-12, and College to develop their skills in original devised theater. This unique program is taught in American Sign Language and English, ensuring accessibility for Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, and Hearing students alike. The program runs from July 8 to July 20, 2024, with classes taking place Monday to Friday from 10am to 3pm. Early drop-off options are available for added convenience.
The culmination of the program will be a performance on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at 11am, giving students the chance to showcase their talents. The location for this exciting event is 154 Christopher St, 3B, NYC.
The Young Actors Laboratory program, an offshoot of IRT Theater's 3B Development Series, offers a unique twist on traditional theater education. Led by renowned theater director Jules Dameron and accomplished actress Treshelle M. Edmond, this program goes beyond the usual theater essentials, incorporating sign language, spoken word, mime, storytelling, dance, and music.
No prior acting experience is necessary, making this program suitable for students of all backgrounds and interests. Artists of various disciplines are encouraged to apply and bring their open minds to be blown away by this unforgettable experience.
This program is supported by the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the New York State Council on the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
