The Balance Bike Course is perfect for children aged 2.5-4 who are ready to begin their biking journey. This course, consisting of four 45-minute sessions, is specifically designed to introduce and develop the basic movement patterns, dynamic balance, and gross motor skills necessary for riding a bike. Through a series of engaging activities and games, children will gain the confidence to glide on a balance bike without their feet touching the ground. The course covers essential riding skills such as mounting and dismounting the bike, maneuvering, controlling, and stopping. All sessions will be held outdoors on the playground at Sewell Park Academy in Norwich. The dates for the course are as follows: Saturday 27th January, Saturday 3rd February, Saturday 10th February, and Saturday 17th February. Each session will take place from 1.00-1.45pm. It is important for participants to attend all four sessions. If your child already has their own balance bike and helmet, they are welcome to bring them along. However, if you don't have your own equipment, they can be borrowed. Suitable clothing and footwear for the weather conditions are recommended. Additionally, all participants are required to wear a suitable bike helmet throughout the course. During this course, children will gain the necessary skills and confidence to ride a bike independently with pedals. We will cover various aspects such as fitting a helmet, mounting and dismounting the bike, balancing, steering, braking, and pedaling. To ensure a safe and secure learning experience, we will initially lower the seats and remove the pedals from the children's bikes for the first three sessions. This allows children to learn the skills without the fear of losing balance, as they can easily put their feet on the ground. By doing so, we build their confidence gradually. The course will take place over four dates, with each session scheduled between 2.00-3.00pm. It is important for participants to attend all four sessions. The sessions will be held indoors at Sewell Park Academy, located at St Clements Hill, Norwich, NR3 4BX. Parents are encouraged to observe all sessions, as this will help them understand the skills being taught and enable them to support their child's practice outside of the sessions. The cost of the course is £50 per child, plus a small booking fee. If your child has their own bike and helmet, they should bring them along. However, bikes can be borrowed if needed. Please inform us during the booking process if you require any equipment. It is mandatory for all participants to wear a suitable bike helmet throughout the course. If you don't have one, we can provide a helmet for you. Children should wear comfortable clothing suitable for both indoor and outdoor conditions.
