The Southend RNLI Mulberry Fun Run is now open and taking entries for Southend RNLI . *** LIMITED SPACES - ONLY 1,200 SPACES AVAILABLE - BE QUICK *** Have you ever fancied a walk/run/whatever out towards the Mulberry Harbour . . . well now you can! This is the perfect opportunity to venture out towards the Mulberry Harbour in a safe and controlled environment. The route is approximately 3.5km long, with two opportunites to shorten the route for those who do not wish to complete the entire course. We have a route for everyone and participants are free to complete the route in their own time. The fun run will start from approx. 10:20 (subject to tidal conditions). All money raised are to be utilised at the Southend RNLI Station. All participants will need to ensure they have the following: Appropriate footwear (following the guidance issued in the welcome pack) Clothes which you don’t mind getting dirty & wet Slip, Slop, Slap - Bring plenty of water, slop on that sunscreen and slap on a hat - we have pre-ordered the sun so fingers crossed it arrives on time! With our early bird pricing, adults can enter for £12 and children for £7, or you can enter on the day for £25 for an adult or £15 for a child. Entry on the day will be cashless however, the RNLI Shop will be there on the day and can accept cash if that is your payment preference. Eelgrass has distinct importance to the area as it provides food for nationally important numbers of wintering birds such as Dark Bellied Brent Geese, Grey Plover and Knot. Along with a food source, they create underwater meadows with support diverse ecosystems. They act as spawning and nursery sites for fish and provide shelter for tiny invertebrates, marine mammals and waterfowl. The root systems stabilize sediment and the plants themselves sequester CO2 efficiently with 1 hectare of seagrass storing up to two tonnes of CO2 per year. Essex Wildlife Trust states the best way to protect seagrass is to avoid anchoring in seagrass areas and minimize disturbance from mooring, avoid trampling and other activities that disturb sea grass and spread the word. The Sid Bolan Big Band return once again another exciting evening at our '40s & '50s Vulcan Hangar Dance . The dance will take place in the Vulcan Restoration Trust's hangar at London Southend Airport, known as Royal Air Force Rochford during the Second World War. You can dance the night away beneath Vulcan XL426's giant delta wings. Sid Bolan's 18-piece band will be playing a selection of dance hits from the wartime and post-war years. If you're a beginner, or your dancing skills are in need of a refresh, the Air Raid Jive Dance School will start the evening with a 30 minute fun 'tutorial' so everyone can hone their dance moves for the evening to come! The hangar doors will open at 6.00 pm. After his debut at last year's dance, DJ Dinger is back and will get the evening underway shortly after doors open. The popular DJ will be playing sounds from the '40 & '50s to get everyone in the mood for the evening to come. The Air Raid Jive Dance School will begin at 7.30 pm. The Sid Bolan Big Band will then join us at 8.00 pm and will play until 10.30 pm. We encourage everyone attending to dress vintage to give the evening an authentic '40s and '50s 'feel'. But please wrap-up as aircraft hangars aren't the warmest of places - and it will be October! There will be a licensed pay bar. Working with a wide range of processes and materials, from ceramics and prosthetics to frescos, Rafał Zajko’s predominantly sculptural practice explores themes including architecture, labour, religion, working-class heritage, the industrial past, and queer identities. His works interweave each of these elements to suggest reinterpretations of the past – and to imagine new future realities. This discussion will offer insights into Zajko’s practice and will further explore the new commissioned works produced on the occasion of this exhibition, with an opportunity to see the show before the event. About the artists: Jonathan Baldock (b. 1980, Kent, UK) is a London-based artist who works across multiple platforms including sculpture, installation and performance. Join the Print Club's screen printing inductions at The Old Waterworks in Southend-on-Sea. Hosted by Sugar Storm Studio, this workshop offers the perfect opportunity to learn or enhance your screen printing skills. Led by professional screen printer, Charlotte from Sugar Storm Studio, the inductions provide guidance and advice on all aspects of screen printing. During the inductions, you will learn about the equipment and materials available, as well as how to coat and expose a screen. You can bring your own design or choose from a selection of pre-prepared designs. The basics of screen printing will be covered, allowing you to create a one-colour A4 print on paper or card.
