I found the poems in the fields. And only wrote them down - John Clare John Clare was a nineteenth-century poet who had little formal education but who wrote about his lived experience of nature in detailed and beautiful poems. He also lamented changes in the agrarian world which foreshadow present day concerns about loss of habitat. He wrote movingly about his own sense of alienation and profound loneliness. Come and join Jan in a guided exploration of Clare’s poetry, his life and the times he lived in. Jan was a teacher of English for over 40 years and has had her poems published in various anthologies. She has an MA in English Literature and chairs various poetry groups in person and online. Ticket price includes tea or coffee and cake! Information Source: Poetry Pharmacy | eventbrite

Sep 16, 2025 (UTC+1)
Bridgnorth
Arts Literary Arts
Join us in Bridgnorth for an evening with international bestselling author Heather Morris as she visits the UK to talk about her brand new novel The Wish . From the bestselling author of THE TATTOOIST OF AUSCHWITZ comes a heartbreaking contemporary novel of a dying teenager's final wish, a lonely young man's journey towards connection, and the unexpected friendship they find together. Perfect for fans of Jojo Moyes, Jodi Picoult, and John Green. Jesse is 15. She loves her friends, her little brother and her parents - even when they're arguing, which feels like constantly these days. But most of all, she loves playing video games. Even from her hospital bed. Alex is 29. He doesn't love a lot of things. To be honest, he's not really sure he knows how to. His desk at work, as VR games designer, is empty, much like his life feels sometimes. Then Jesse makes a wish. A simple one: a video experience made of her life, something to be there, just in case she isn't. One loving teenager. One lonely adult. Which one will get the happy ending? Heather Morris is an international no.1 bestseller and has sold over 18 million copies worldwide. This brand-new novel is a fresh direction for her but speaks to all the themes that you know and love her for: hope in the darkest of places, family, love and courage. We look forward to welcoming Heather to Bridgnorth this Autumn. Oswestry
Arts Literary Arts
Join us for an evening with award winning writer, broadcaster and journalist Damian Barr as he talks about his new novel, The Two Roberts, reimagining one of the strongest and most passionate love stories of modern British art. 'He will stay like this forever, Robert's arm draped round him. They will be forever twenty.' Scotland, 1933. Bobby MacBryde is on his way. After years grafting at Lees Boot Factory, he's off to the Glasgow School of Art, to his future. On his first day he will meet another Robert, a quiet man with loose dark curls - and never leave his side. Together they will spend every penny and every minute devouring Glasgow - its botanical gardens, the Barras market, a whole hidden city - all the while loving each other behind closed doors. With the world on the brink of war, their unrivalled talent will take them to Paris, Rome, London. They will become stars as the bombs fall, hosting wild parties with the likes of Lucian Freud, Francis Bacon and Elizabeth Smart. But the brightest stars burn fastest. Stunningly reimagined, The Two Roberts is a profoundly moving story of devotion and obsession, art and class. It is a love letter to MacBryde and Colquhoun, the almost-forgotten artists who tried to change the way the world sees - and paid a devastating price. Event Format: Author talk 'in conversation' followed by audience Q&A and book signing Tickets: £10 without book (Admits One, ticket redeemable against a signed copy of The Two Roberts) or £19 with book (Admits One, includes a signed copy of The Two Roberts). At the end of the session, there may be a small selection of our wild products and workshop vouchers available to purchase (card and cash accepted). This is a recent element of our events after enough attendees made enquiries about it - there is no pressure to buy anything having already bought tickets but sometimes people want a souvenir to take with them! Please speak to your tutor about this at the end. Who Is This Workshop For? These events are perfect for everyone - families, bushcrafters and dog-walkers alike! Nobody is made to feel out of their depth or silly for not knowing what certain things are, so these events suit absolute novices to more experienced hobby foragers alike. We strongly believe that foraging is for everyone , with all demographics welcome, regardless of age, ability, gender or ethnicity. Please read our FAQs further down the page to find out about dogs, children and mobility. IMPORTANT INFORMATION KIT LIST: What to bring with you EMAILS: Please add our email into your safe senders list (via your e-tickets which will arrive immediately) so you can be sent updates and the follow-up email for this workshop. Check your junk folder! If you do not do this, you may end up missing important updates or even cancellation notifications. Attendees are encouraged to walk, cycle or use public transport to get to the destination. EXACT MEETING POINT: in the layby (safely off the road please!) Google Maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/5TqZEFBH7NCgUaPv7 What.3.Words: https://w3w.co/refrain.important.victor PARKING: There is very limited free parking at the venue. Please park considerately. It is recommended you park further away and walk to the meeting point if you are able to. TOILETS: Toilets are not available at this venue. Please arrive well in time for the start of the workshop, allowing extra time for the distance from your parked car to the meeting point and any toilet trips - we don't tend to wait for late-comers! Your foraging guide for the day should arrive on site at least an hour before the start and will start gathering the group together approximately 15 minutes before the official start time. If you cannot find your tutor around that time, there is a chance you are looking in the wrong place, so please check the event information for the exact location (not the postcode) Signage can sometimes be limited, so keep an eye out for anyone with a foraging basket! Minimum number of guests for this event to go ahead: 8 people PLEASE NOTE: We do not provide guests with a contact telephone number for your tutor. This is for privacy puropses but also because it is impractical to do so - your tutor simply wouldn't be able to take a call whilst with a group. If you need to get in contact, please use the email function via eventbrite or our website . Start getting excited! Cultural Experiences
Shropshire Advanced Motorcyclists are delighted to announce that we are expanding our working association with Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service and their excellent 'Biker-Down' Workshops (TM) and will continue delivering the 'The Thinking Rider" the last of three free modules. If the first two modules help you in dealing with the unfortunate aftermath of a Motorcycle Road Traffic Accident, the final module is designed to help prevent such an incident occurring in the first place, as SMIDSY (Sorry Mate, I didn't see you) is still by far and away the most common cause attributed to Motorcycle related incidents Biker-Down (TM) is provided entirely free of charge by Shropshire Fire and Rescue service and comprises three modules. Full details and registration forms can be found by selecting this link: https://shropshirefire.gov.uk/biker-down-shropshire But what does becoming a more skilful rider mean to you? Better road positioning? Enhanced observation skills? Or simply better bike control? How would it be if you were able to not only attend this excellent morning workshop, but then have the opportunity to try out the theory for yourself in the very same afternoon, and on your own bike, all FREE of charge to you? Well now you can, as Shropshire Advanced Motorcyclists will be running FREE Advanced Taster rides, starting from the very same venue in the same afternoon, once you have all had a refreshment break. As we are working in association with Biker-Down (TM), this will be run as an independent follow-on event and will require that you register your place independently on both the Biker-Down page (listed above) and by registering your place HERE on this page if interested in coming our for the afternoon on-road session. You will be going out on a mixture of roads with a qualified IAM RoadSmart Observer at a ratio of 1 to 1, or possibly a maximum of 1 Observer to two riders, depending on numbers. Coffee stops will be included, and you will have the opportunity to discuss your ride and at the end will be provided with a written report to take away with you. Whilst there will never be any pressure from us to join, this will however entitle you to a discount with IAM RoadSmart in the event that you should wish to take up the full training. Finally, please understand that the on-road element is not obligatory, as we are offering this as an independent add-on service for Biker-Down (TM) delegates, so if you are wanting to atend the morning workshop only, then just book on the link provided above. Approximate timing for the day are: - Biker-Down (TM) Arrival 09:30 Module 1: 10am-11am Module 2: 11am-12 noon Module 3:- 12noon-13:00hrs Refreshment Break 13:00hrs-13:45 (Bring a packed lunch)] SAMM FREE Advanced Taster Ride: 13:45 hrs - Meet in the car park 14:00 hrs - On the road Advanced Rides with your Observer 16:30 - 17:00 hrs - Debrief and written report Information Source: Shropshire Advanced Motorists & Motorcyclists | eventbrite

Cultural Experiences
Join poet Jonathan Davidson for a Poetry Walk starting and finishing at The Poetry Pharmac Lab in Bishop's Castle. Using a circular route, we will stroll along small roads and footpaths, stopping now and then to hear some poems read aloud in the open air. Copies of poems – by various carefully selected poets – will be provided, although participants are welcome to bring along short poems of their own to share. While the walk will only be a few kilometres and therefore not too strenuous, it will involve stiles and quite possibly mud, so participants will be asked to bring along suitable footwear and clothing. We’ll walk at the pace of the slowest, the better to chat and enjoy the views. The ticket includes a drink and cake at journey’s end and numbers will be limited to 12 participants. Jonathan Davidson is a poet of the English Midlands with an enthusiasm for other people’s poems and the great outdoors. His most recent books are A Commonplace – Apples, Bricks & Other People’s Poems , and Downland – a collaboration with the visual artist Anna Dillon. His poetry memoir, On Poetry – Jonathan Davidson , continues to divide opinion. His weekly Out of Office poems (and monthly digest of the same) make good poems by others more widely known. Jerskin Fendrix: Live. . . In Shropshire Jerskin Fendrix’s 2020 debut Winterreise centred him among a rising group of artists from the the South London Windmill scene, and captured the imagination of director Yorgos Lanthimos , who tapped Jerskin to score Poor Things . The experimental artist was quickly catapulted to international acclaim, with the score receiving BAFTA , Oscar and Golden Globe nominations, and Jerskin winning an Ivor Novello award , and Film Composer of the Year and Discovery of the Year awards at the 2024 World Soundtrack Awards. In-between time spent nurturing his burgeoning career as a composer (working on Lanthimos’ Poor Things, Kinds of Kindness & forthcoming Bugonia ), Jerskin began work on Once Upon A Time. . . In Shropshire . The record threads together memories of a vibrant, rural childhood, attempting to capture a time and place that’s been altered by the ebb of time and the failings of memory. “It's not a sad thing - maybe a bit nostalgic. It’s trying to capture that feeling and how important that was to me and my friends and my family - and then how, bit by bit, it gets cracked and corrupted” he adds.
