How Speed Dating Works in Nottingham When you arrive at the Nottingham venue you will be greeted by our friendly professional hosts. Once everyone has arrived and registered we will briefly explain the format of the evening. The ladies will then be asked to make their way to their allocated table. Once the ladies are seated the gentlemen will be asked to proceed to their first date. You will have 4 minutes to chat to each date, once the 4 minutes is over we will ring a bell to indicate the time is up and for the gentlemen to move to their next date. Four minutes is long enough to see if you click with the person you are talking to and whether you would like to see them again and also short enough if you don't. At the end of each date you have a brief few moments to make some notes on the person you have just dated. This is something to help jog your memory for the post event matching process the next day. Half way through the event you will have an interval break so you can nip to the toilet or top up your drink. Once all the dates are over you have the opportunity to stay on at the venue to mingle freely with others. Please remember to take your dating card home with you to assist you in entering in your ticks and potential matches. Post Event No later than 11am the following morning our matching system will be unlocked for you to enter your ticks from the previous evening. You have all day to tick as many people as you like from the night before. We are delighted to welcome bestselling author Katherine Rundell to Nottingham to celebrate the release of The Poisoned King ! The mesmerising follow-up to Rundell's Waterstones Book of the Year 2023-winning Impossible Creatures finds Christopher embroiled in an elaborate rescue mission as he returns to the magical world of the Archipelago. Katherine joins us at Broadway Cinema for a talk, audience Q&A and signing. Please note that Katherine will sign all books bought from Waterstones on the day of the event, but due to time restraints and to make sure that all readers have a chance to get their book signed, Katherine will only be able to sign one book brought from home The dragons call out, and the ratatoskas tell of murder. Come with us now. There is justice to be done. Return to the Archipelago - the secret place in our world where all the creatures of myth still live and thrive, for a rescue mission like no other. The Poisoned King is the second book in the epic Impossible Creatures fantasy series from bestselling author Katherine Rundell. When Christopher Forrester is unexpectedly woken by a miniature dragon chewing on his face, his heart leaps for joy. For months he’s dreamed of returning to the Archipelago. But he did not know it would involve a rescue mission on the back of a sphinx, or a plan to enter a dragon’s lair. Nor did he imagine it would involve a girl with a flock of birds at her side, a new-hatched chick in her pocket and a ravenous hunger for justice... Katherine Rundell is a multi-million-bestselling author whose novels for children have won the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize, the Blue Peter Book Award and the Costa Children’s Book Award, among many others. Impossible Creatures was Waterstones Book of the Year 2023, and in 2024 Katherine was named the British Book Awards Author of the Year and Impossible Creatures won the Children’s Fiction Book of the Year. She is a Quondam Fellow of All Souls College and a Fellow of St Catherine’s College, Oxford, where she works on Renaissance literature. Her books for adults include Super-Infinite, winner of the Baillie Gifford Prize. Very occasionally she goes climbing across the rooftops of Oxford, late at night. Comedy in the Caves – Bobby Davro Attention all comedy lovers and cave enthusiasts! Get ready for an unforgettable experience as Ian Whitcombe Comedy brings you “Comedy in the Caves” with the legendary Bobby Davro! You won’t want to miss out on seeing Bobby performing live in an actual cave. The caves are located beneath the beautiful Whistle & Flute pub on Derby Road, Nottingham, and offer the perfect blend of laughter and adventure in a truly unique environment. Join us for a one-of-a-kind comedy show that you won’t find anywhere else! Bobby Davro (Headliner) Bobby Davro is a renowned impressionist comedian with over 100 television and acting credits, stretching out over a remarkable 300 appearances. He was a fixture of television entertainment in the 80s and has continued to maintain and grow his stardom over the three decades since his rise began. He made his television debut in 1981, but it wasn’t until 1983 that he made his television breakthrough at Live From Her Majesty’s followed by appearances on the television show, Who Do You Do? As his popularity soared Bobby was given his own shows; Bobby Davro on the Box, Bobby Davro’s TV Annual and Bobby Davro’s TV Weekly. Over the years Bobby has transitioned into a television presenter and actor. He famously played Vinnie Monks in BBC soap EastEnders between 2007 and 2008, starring in an impressive 66 episodes. However Bobby is probably most well known as an impressionist, and in 2013 he demonstrated the longevity of his talents by appearing in Your Face Sounds Familiar, where prominent impressionists compete and mimic famous singers. He was applauded for his portrayal of Sir Tom Jones, Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney. Nowadays he continues to perform and has been given a host of stage roles, in popular pantos and shows. He has performed in Aladdin, Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella, Robin Hood and the Wizard of Oz over the past decade, proving extremely popular at a range of venues including the Derngate Theatre, Northampton, the Theatre Royal Plymouth, Dorking Halls and the Southend Cliffs Pavilion. He has also made a series of appearances on popular reality game shows and celebrity talent shows. He has been a special guest judge on Five’s All Star Talent Show, on Channel 4’s Come Dine With Me, The Word and Dancing On Ice. Bobby’s distinctive comedic personality, excellent character impressions, acting skills and entertaining stories about his career and the media industry make him an excellent choice for an after-dinner speaker. He has received plaudits for his brand of corporate entertainment, comedy cabaret and event hosting. His long-standing position in the industry makes him a fantastic headliner for Comedy in the Caves. Jon Hipkiss (Opener) Bobby’s opening act will be the brilliant Jon Hipkissm who is a two-time Leicester Comedy Festival Award Nominee. His act is about everything, nothing and something. Last year Jon completed a whopping 90 shows at the Edinburgh Festival with many sell-out nights for his solo show. He tells jokes and stories about his drinking, rehab stay, old people, death, why you shouldn’t watch the news, German comedy groups, shark attacks and Buzz Lightyear. He has previously been tour support for Jack Whitehall. “Laugh out loud funny,” Jon Richardson. Ian Whitcombe (MC) Ian will be making a rare appearance at the Caves as MC for the evening. His usual role as backstage promotor, light and sound engineer and tea boy will be swept aside as he takes to the stage to keep the show on the straight and narrow. Live at the Apollo, Mock the Week, Taskmaster and Britain’s Got Talent are just a few of the programmes Ian has never appeared on. The list is literally endless! His MC work tends to be friendly and inclusive, so you don’t have to be worried about being picked on (too much…) Please be advised that our comedy line-ups are subject to change. Our talented comedians are in high demand and, on occasion, may need to cancel at short notice for television or radio recordings, among other reasons. Rest assured, we will always provide a replacement act of similar quality to ensure that our guests receive a great overall show experience. While most of our guests come for the entire show, we understand that some may be travelling to see a particular comedian. If that’s the case, we recommend checking our website on the day of the show or joining our mailing list to receive the latest updates on any changes to the line-up. We’re committed to providing our guests with the best possible experience, and we thank you for your understanding. Please note that the show starts at 8pm, so please ensure you leave plenty of time to get to your seat before the first act. This event is an 18+ event and may contain strong language. Contact: If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the organiser Kayleigh at info@staa-allotments.org.uk About Jo Jo is Staa’s CEO and Chair of the Nottingham Growing Network. She’s particularly passionate about seasonal, sustainable British blooms. You might think that the family floristry business sparked an early interest in all things floral. But it wasn’t until running a training centre in the 1990s, where Jo set up City & Guilds horticultural qualifications (as she has also recently done at STAA, too) that her spark for growing ignited. From growing up without a garden to growing on 1.75 acres, Jo’s love of all things floral really bloomed with the emergence of garden style floral arrangements. Nothing beats gorgeous, highly scented cut flowers fresh from farm to gate. Jo’s style shows that flowers don’t need to be flown across the world or sprayed with chemicals and wrapped in plastic to be show-stoppers. About the Community Orchard This workshop will be run from the Strawbale Building on the Community Orchard. This unique building is hand-built from bales of straw and weatherproofed with clay sourced on site. It’s also off-grid, being naturally insulated by a living roof, with solar panels and a log-burner. The Community Orchard is a garden maintained by Staa for educational purposes featuring a variety of mature fruit trees, many of them heritage varieties, and also includes a pond and a stream. St Ann’s Allotments are Grade II* Listed by Historic England, and designated an Area of Importance for Nature Conservation. It is the oldest and largest are of Victorian detached town gardens in the UK, with over 700-years of history, 500 gardens, and 32 miles of hedgerow. About Staa This event is organised by Staa, a small charity that manages a number of highly regarded projects across 30+ plots at St Ann's Allotments that provide community benefit and offer a wide variety of volunteering opportunities. An Evening with Tristan Gooley - Nottingham | Waterstones

Cultural Experiences
We are delighted to welcome Tristan Gooley to Waterstones Nottingham to celebrate the release of his new book, The Hidden Seasons . ' When we know what to look for and what it means, seasonal moments that were once hidden shine brightly.' In The Hidden Seasons , Tristan Gooley shows us how to read the clues that the sun, moon, stars, plants, fungi, animals, water and weather give us - but that we continually miss, because we don't know how and where to look. Spring is the time of wildflower signs, unique cloud shapes and curious animal behaviour. Summer is a time of coastal clues, astronomical extremes and secret grass patterns. Autumn is a time for reading leaves, deciphering scents and investigating fungi. And in winter, we learn to read snow, deepen our star knowledge and use rare methods to find clues in overlooked places, including indoors. As with Tristan Gooley's bestsellers The Walker's Guide , How to Read Water and How to Read a Tree , The Hidden Seasons inspires us to explore these signs for ourselves, giving us many rich insights into our turning year. Soon we will be able to anticipate and celebrate daily changes that few notice, however surprising they may be. And the seasons will never look, sound or smell the same again. Tristan will talk about his new book before an audience Q&A and book signing. Tristan Gooley is an award-winning and international bestselling author. Through his journeys, teaching and writing, he has pioneered a renaissance in the rare art of natural navigation. His previous title, How to Read a Tree , was a Sunday Times Bestseller and a Waterstones Non-Fiction Book of the Month pick, selling 100,000 copies across all formats. Readers are embracing his vision of the natural world in ever increasing numbers.
