Join the Scottish HR Leadership Group for a dynamic, future-focused conference that brings together leading voices in policy, business and HR to explore how we prepare our organisations, and ourselves, for the world of work in 2030. Designed specifically for senior HR professionals, this event is built around one clear goal: solving real business problems through the power of people. It brings together strategic insight and practical application, so you leave not only inspired but equipped. The day opens with future-focused keynotes exploring the major forces transforming the world of work—from AI to economic turbulence—and the critical role HR must play in navigating them. You’ll then hear how HR and business leaders are partnering to deliver measurable impact in areas like workforce transformation, inclusion and talent strategy. In the afternoon, a high-energy hackathon, co-designed with CIPD, puts you in the driver’s seat. You’ll collaborate with peers to co-create solutions to the most pressing challenges of the decade ahead, with expert input and real-time feedback from industry leaders. If you’re looking for an event that challenges your thinking, exposes you to thoughts and experiences from leading Scottish CPOs, and connects you with a community of forward-thinking HR leaders—this is it. This event has been designed f or HR professionals, by HR professionals, ensuring that every session delivers relevant insights and practical takeaways that you can apply directly in the workplace. You’ll be joined by 120 peers on the day from a wide range of HR roles, sectors and company sizes. In past years, we’ve been joined by delegates from Tesco Bank, NatWest, Highland Spring, Scottish Ballet, National Galleries of Scotland, DC Thomson, Arnold Clark and Scottish Enterprise. Pay it Forward Scheme We believe great ideas should be shared, and that financial barriers shouldn't stand in the way of professional growth. That's why we're introducing our Pay it Forward scheme. This initiative allows delegates to sponsor a place for another HR professional whose organisation may not have the budget to attend this year. By contributing, you're not just supporting a peer; you're strengthening the wider HR community. Every sponsored place helps ensure diverse voices and experiences are part of the conversation shaping the future of work. As a thank you for your generosity, we’ll recognise your support in our formal conference programme and give you a shout-out on our LinkedIn channel, tagging your company to highlight your commitment to the profession. Supporting our Pay it Forward Scheme If you or your organisation would like to Pay it Forward, you can opt in during registration or get in touch with our team to learn more ( info@scottishhrlg.com ). Benefit from our Pay it Forward Scheme Sponsored places will be allocated via a ballot system , ensuring fairness and transparency. HR professionals interested in receiving a free ticket can apply to enter the ballot. Interested in joining our ballot for a Pay it Forward ticket? How Speed Dating Works in Edinburgh When you arrive at the Edinburgh venue you will be greeted by our friendly professional hosts. Once everyone has arrived and registered we will briefly explain the format of the evening. The ladies will then be asked to make their way to their allocated table. Once the ladies are seated the gentlemen will be asked to proceed to their first date. You will have 4 minutes to chat to each date, once the 4 minutes is over we will ring a bell to indicate the time is up and for the gentlemen to move to their next date. Four minutes is long enough to see if you click with the person you are talking to and whether you would like to see them again and also short enough if you don't. At the end of each date you have a brief few moments to make some notes on the person you have just dated. This is something to help jog your memory for the post event matching process the next day. Half way through the event you will have an interval break so you can nip to the toilet or top up your drink. Once all the dates are over you have the opportunity to stay on at the venue to mingle freely with others. Please remember to take your dating card home with you to assist you in entering in your ticks and potential matches. Post Event No later than 11am the following morning our matching system will be unlocked for you to enter your ticks from the previous evening. Whilst lobbying is an integral part of the democratic process, it is imperative that policy is developed transparently, that there is a level playing field for interested parties, and that decision makers hear from a range of diverse voices. Lobbying transparency is therefore vital to understand who is seeking to influence decision making, and where there are concerns about access to policy makers. Scotland’s lobbying register sets a standard for the UK. This event will share analysis about what lobbying data reveals and consider what improvements might give us even better insights into the who, what and how of lobbying. We will also share Transparency International UK’s Open Access tool which uses AI to enable easier interrogation and comparison of lobbying data at Holyrood and Westminster by topic. There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion. Prior to attending the event please contact events@transparency.org.uk if you have any specific access requirements or if you require personal assistance in the event of an evacuation. A few days after Paris was liberated from the Nazis in August 1944, the most notorious fashion couturiere in the world collapsed on a hotel bed in Switzerland after escaping the French capital and certain death. Join journalist and author, Richard Wallace , on Thursday 4th September at 7pm , as he discusses the true, harrowing story of Chanel's escape from France in his new book, Chanel's War . For 80 years, this incredible feat of courage, luck and ingenuity in the midst of immense danger has been deliberately shrouded in disinformation and secrecy by family, friends, wary governments, risk-averse business partners, and fellow collaborators. But now, with the aid of new information contained in previously unreleased private French Résistance papers and a new assessment of discredited evidence from organised crime figures, what really happened to Coco Chanel during that fascinating and scandalous period of her life between 1944 and 1954 can finally be revealed. - Doors: 6.30pm, event starts: 7pm, please arrive early to secure a good seat. What does it mean to be a polar explorer? Together with our speakers, we’ll explore the motivations behind polar exploration and how they have shifted over time – from the extraordinary exploits on the ice of Irishman Tom Crean and Scotland's Speirs Bruce, unsung heroes, during the days of Shackleton and Scott a century ago, through to modern day explorers. While their era of conquest may be over, the spirit of discovery is still very much alive with today’s explorers driven by the need to understand – from climate science and environmental change to personal endurance and resilience. We’ll also be joined by Luke Robertson – the first young Scot with a pacemaker to ski solo and unsupported to the South Pole. This event celebrates the spirit of curiosity and connects the legacy of historic explorers with the challenges of our changing world. Join us as we chart the evolving purpose of polar exploration. It is all a bit overwhelming right now isn't it? Join Papercut Punk down by the seaside for some calming and reflective papercutting. Fall in love with this deceptively simple artform and make peace signs to hang in your window or frame to display at home. No drawing skills necessary as you will work with templates but going rogue is thoroughly encouraged, we need a bit of rebellion right now... Over 18 due to very sharp blades, the workshop is up a flight of stairs and sadly the Town Hall has no lift, huge apologies. Information Source: Papercut Punk | eventbrite

Antibiotics - one of humanity’s greatest achievements, but invented by microbes. Join biologist and author, Liam Shaw , on Thursday 11th September at 7pm , as he chats about his new epic narrative of scientific discovery, Dangerous Miracle . Since their advent, antibiotics have saved millions of lives, marking one of the greatest medical advances in our history. Dangerous Miracle weaves together the grand arc of the evolution of antibiotics over millions of years with a history of the past century: first as we mined the earth for naturally occurring antibiotic molecules, then as we learned to synthesise our own. But like fossil fuels, antibiotics are a finite resource which we’ve regarded as a cheap, everlasting fuel. They are unlike other drugs: every time we use them we increase the possibility of antibiotic resistance emerging, risking their future effectiveness. If we want antibiotics to have a future, we need to prepare to adapt. And fast. Rich with pioneering characters, great breakthroughs and grave risks, Dangerous Miracle is a grand drama of science, history and politics. It is a revelatory account of of the miraculous history and uncertain future of antibiotics from a gifted writer. - Doors: 6.30pm, event starts: 7pm, please arrive early to secure a good seat. Tickets are £3 and there is a Ticket & Book option which includes a signed copy of Dangerous Miracle by Liam Shaw. The bookshop has level access, events are seated and speakers use microphones. If you have any concerns about accessibility, please do get in touch and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
