Are you a manager? Have you got pressures and challenges you're not entirely sure how to handle? Are you short of time and even shorter on energy? Would you like a little support, just for you? Look no further! Come and join us for a day of exploration and discussion that blends cutting edge insights with plain old common sense and looks to restore a little calm and confidence to your world. Our one day workshop explores: The role of the modern manager Successful teams and how to develop them The neuro-psychology of folks at work and why you need to know about it. Why everyone talks about trust and psychological safety. Coaching skills and what they can help you with. Your management style and how to develop it. This event is capped at 10 delegates. This is an in-person event, hosted in the beautiful D&A Chamber of Commerce Building, Dundee. We're just a short walk from the rail and bus stations and there is plenty of parking close by. Tea, coffee and light refreshments will be available and there will be a 60minute break for lunch, with M&S food, City Quay Cafe and other food outlets close by for you to choose from. We hope that you can join us! 5 Stars 'An excellent course! What a fantastic balance between setting the scene with relevant theory and practical guidance on where you can have the most impact as a line manager. I thoroughly enjoyed the opportunities given for the group to share their collective experiences too - both in the main group and the smaller break out sessions.' M.M 5 Stars 'The perfect combination of informative and engaging. I’ve left with lots of practical takeaways which I can apply immediately. Thank you Cami!' 5 Stars 'Cami has a wonderful manner in how she delivers, often complex, ideas to the group. The session was engaging from the off and this didn't change throughout the entire day. Enough space was given for consideration and it felt like a safe space to ask questions. I would also add that the content from this session is applicable to all, not just those working in management. Thank you for an excellent day.' Katy 5 Stars 'I found the workshop to be very insightful, as a relatively new manager compared to others in the group it was so brilliant to meet other people on a developmental journey, and learn from them as well as the workshop lead, Cami, was so brilliant.' 'We don't do stodgy and boring, we do fun. We do supportive and informative. We want you to leave feeling excited and empowered. We are Happy Human Training and this is the workshop you've been waiting for!' Cami Rose Alexander. Founder & Principal Practitioner. Information Source: The Happy Human Training Co. | eventbrite

Direct from the Edinburgh festival, and his last smash-hit nationwide tour, the legendary Canadian stand-up star TOM STADE is back on the road with a brand-new show Naughty By Nature. Join Tom as he playfully dishes out more of his insightful observations. An irrepressible tour-de-force with an hour of first class, mischievous and uncompromising comedy. As seen/heard on Have a Word Pod, Ch4’s Comedy Gala, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, The John Bishop Show, Live at the Apollo (so good, he’s done it twice) and much more! “As fresh and youthful as three decades ago. Athletic finesse: jokes are machine-tooled in precision and effortless in their delivery” - ★★★★ List “A show full of great big laughs. Stade’s laid-back delivery allows him to land every punchline with rhythmic precision. He hits gold. Such an assured and enjoyable comic.” - ★★★★ Scotsman “Strikes gold with his playfully exaggerated potshots across the ages. The key to his success is the interaction with the audience - gives the hour a fluidity and a spontaneity. Gags remain highly polished and expertly delivered - makes stand-up look effortless.” - ★★★★ Chortle “Gloriously funny, silly and smart” - Scotsman “One of the best, with a shedful of classy routines. The sort of comic you could listen to all night… Stand-up elite.” - Chortle “For energy, think Porsche 911. Wouldn’t be out of place in an arena” - Mail on Sunday “Natural flair for storytelling and a villainous sense of humour. Master of hardcore comedy” - List “Every inch a star. Arts Film
"The Sea" is a new environmental strand within IberoDocs, bringing together four powerful short films by women filmmakers that reflect on our complex relationship with the ocean and coastal life. Our journey begins with Hello Sea! by María Goya Barquet, a poetic and personal documentary that explores what the sea is, for a person who has never seen it. With Blow! by Neus Ballús, poetry is merged with reality, as we follow a research team and the singing of the whales. The animated lines of Percebes by Laura Gonçalves carry us to the Portuguese coast and the social and ecological cycles surrounding one of the ocean’s most prized delicacies, while Spirits & Rocks: an Azorean Myth by Aylin Gökmen captures the deep emotional and geological tremors of life on a volcanic island. Together, they form a resonant chorus—stories of memory, longing, survival, and transformation—each uniquely anchored by the voices and visions of women. In collaboration with DocNomads." In collaboration with DocNomads. All films screening with HOH captions. Followed by a panel discussion with BSL interpretation. Information Source: IberoDocs | eventbrite

When ordering at the bar, please whisper. · Entrance and exit is via the side door only; please wait outside at the door for ticket check and to be seated by the doorman. · You will probably have to share a table. You may not be able to sit together if the remaining chairs available are spread out. If you are particular about seating we recommend arriving as early as possible. · Seats in the front half of the room must be filled before seating in the back half is allocated. · Seating in the alcove at the back is reserved for the comedians and their guests only. · Don’t talk or heckle during the performances. This rule is NOT optional. It is very distracting for both the performer and other audience members. Some performers (usually the host) might talk to the audience, but otherwise please let the comedians do the talking. Heckling does not ‘help the show’. Think of it like cinema rules: laughter, cheers, applause are all great, but talking or yelling out is not. And another cinema rule… · Please put your phone on silent. Photos are fine but please no video or flash photography. · If your chair is not facing the stage when you come in, please rotate it when the show starts. · These shows are for people aged 18 and over. Due to licencing 17 year olds can attend accompanied by a parent or guardian, but we cannot allow entry to those aged 16 and under, accompanied or not. You may be asked to show ID if you do not look of age. · Comedy Dundee does not necessarily agree or disagree with the opinions and viewpoints expressed by the comedians. Acts are booked based on their ability to make people laugh, beyond that we respect freedom of expression. If you disagree or are offended by what you hear, you are free to express this by not laughing, by leaving, or by respectfully raising your objections with the act after the show or via social media. You may not interrupt an on-going performance. · Audience members who repeatedly break these rules will be asked to leave. Information Source: Comedy Dundee | eventbrite

RRS Discovery's role in Polar exploration history | RRS Discovery and Discovery Point

5pm 6th June £10-£30 -- RRS Discovery is one of only two ships featured as ‘objects’ in author Anne Strathie’s latest book, A History of Polar Exploration in 50 Objects: from Cook’s Circumnavigations to the Aviation Age (pub. November 2024). In this event, Anne will reveal why Discovery was an early choice and the importance of the Dundee-built ship’s multi-faceted role within the histories of not only polar exploration, but also polar science and the Scouting movement. Even if you have already read Anne’s new book, you may have a few surprises! The event will include a Q&A and a book-signing for those purchasing book-inclusive tickets. About the speaker: Anne Strathie, who was raised and educated in Scotland, became particularly interested in polar exploration history after moving to Cheltenham, hometown of Dr Edward Wilson, a key member of Scott’s Discovery and Terra Nova expeditions. In 2010, after working in business and arts and heritage fundraising, Anne began researching and writing full time. A History of Polar Exploration in 50 Objects is her fourth book and follows biographies of Terra Nova expedition members Henry ‘Birdie’ Bowers and Herbert Ponting, and From Ice-Floes to Battlefields: Scott’s ‘Antarctics’ in the First World War . Anne’s research has taken her all over Britain and to both polar regions, Australia, New Zealand and America. She regularly gives talks and participates in events both in Britain and overseas. Praise for A History of Polar Exploration in 50 Objects : 'The continuum of scientific, artistic and personal affiliations linking the exploration of the Arctic and Antarctic regions is rarely appreciated. Savour, then, the polar epics revealed anew through the objects presented in this book – and be astonished!' -Dr David Wilson, great-nephew of Dr Edward Wilson and author/co-author of, among others, Cheltenham in Antarctica; Discovery Illustrated; Nimrod Illustrated; The Lost Photographs of Captain Scott and Edward Wilson’s Antarctic Notebooks . -- Please note: This event does not include admission to Royal Research Ship Discovery & Discovery Point. If you would like to visit the museum, you can buy tickets online up to seven days in advance or on the day from our lovely Front of House staff. Whilst every effort is taken to ensure this information is accurate, mistakes do happen. Dundee Heritage Trust reserves the right to make changes as necessary. Tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded after purchase except in the case of a cancelled workshop/event. Cancellations may occur due to circumstances out with our control or where they do not reach the minimum number of participants required. Events which do not meet the minimum number of participants will be cancelled no later than 7 days in advance. Information Source: Dundee Heritage Trust | eventbrite

MEET right under the TAY WHALE SCULPTURE,next to the V&A please- you can`t miss it! Learn the weird story of the Tay Whale and hear some of the worst poetry in the world at the same time. Stroll where submarines once bobbed at anchor , visit a lost medieval Close and hear stories of battles , polar bears , comic characters and naval heroes. Where do the underground rivers still run and who is the Green Man of the ancient Dundee Howff Cemetery? Spend around a couple of hours with a friendly local guide who will tell you all about these and much more. Your Guide ,Alastair, has been a Volunteer onboard RRS Discovery for many years and will encourage you to visit in your own time, but soon please! EVERYONE is welcome . I did warn you about the terrible poetry. Willam McGonagall may not have been a great poet- but he is now much loved in Dundee and getting better known across the world. He wrote the epic (and awful) poem The Tay Whale. So good/ bad that they made a sculpture of it for us. Times were tough in Dundee, with great poverty and poor housing well in to the 20th Century. We will touch on this as we walk. We have lost so many of our ancient buildings- but you may be surprised at how many clues remain if you know where to look...... All gone, but we will find them! Mary Slessor. From tough mill worker to a woman revered to this day for her work in Africa. No tour can go on without me trying to get the story of this amazing fighting Norwegian Sea Dog in. See the pub where he used to drink and break up fights whilst he was waiting to win the highest award for animal bravery. My great hero- Admiral Adam Duncan. A Giant of a man who was a Dundee laddie , born in the Seagate. He acheived amazing sea victories. Here he is dealing with a sailor who thought he might lead a mutiny ! Anther famous Dundee sea farer - also born in the Seagate! Pirate Captain William Kidd. There must have been something in the water! Yes, yet another Dundee laddie!
