Are you aware of a young person aged between 12 and 16 who has a keen interest in the climate crisis and would like to participate in an engaging drama workshop? Wise Ram Theatre is organizing a unique Eco-Drama Workshop at The Commons, a welcoming community space and café located at The Minories in Colchester. During this session, participants will have the opportunity to play games, acquire theater skills, and create their own stories that delve into the thought-provoking aspects of the climate crisis. It's important to note that no previous drama experience or climate expertise is required; all that's needed is curiosity, support, and a desire to get involved.
Wise Ram Theatre is a local theater company, renowned for its national work centered around exploring the climate crisis. The company, led by Sofia Bagge, an accomplished actor, theater director, and drama teacher, and Molly Anne Sweeney, a talented scriptwriter and facilitator, holds the esteemed position of Associate Artists at the University of Greenwich. They are also Artists in Residence at The Glitch in London and have received a commission from UCL Culture’s Performing Planet Activism to collaborate with climate researchers. In April 2023, their play "Decommissioned," which delves into climate anxiety and hope, premiered at the Pleasance Theatre in London.
In October 2023 and October 2022, Wise Ram Theatre successfully conducted Eco-Drama workshops for young individuals at MAST Mayflower Theatre Southampton as part of their Emergency Season. Additionally, they regularly organize "Staging the Climate Crisis" workshops and networking events in London.
If you have any accessibility requirements, please inform us in advance, preferably by midday on Friday, November 24th, so that necessary arrangements can be made. The building provides step-free access and accessible facilities. We wholeheartedly welcome young people who are neurodiverse or have learning difficulties and/or disabilities. The workshop will take place at The Commons, an inviting café and community space situated at The Minories. Please access the venue through the garden gate via Lewis Gardens, which is located between Firstsite, Curzon, and The Minories. Regrettably, parking facilities are not available on-site.
