“Rats thrive in sewers” Samiya Bashir writes in 
I Hope This Helps
, a new genre-bending book drawing on her 2024 exhibition of the same name at The Africa Center, “so maybe I’m thriving.” Across poetry, essays, music, printmaking, and photography, Bashir reflects on decades of artistic metamorphosis within and beyond the limits of reality, time, money, and work.
