Experience a transformative two-hour session with the Adult Learn to Row event in Des Moines on May 11, 2024, at Guzman Boathouse. This session offers a comprehensive introduction to the sport, starting with 45 minutes of land-based instruction followed by 75 minutes on the Des Moines River. Participants will learn the fundamentals of rowing on the erg, familiarize themselves with rowing terminology, boat components, and proper oar handling. Subsequently, individuals will hit the water in an eight-person boat, practicing the strokes learned on land while receiving commands from the coxswain. To ensure safety, participants must be at least 18 years old and capable of swimming 200 yards without stopping. Dress appropriately for the weather in form-fitting attire, including socks to wear with the provided rowing shoes. In case of inclement weather, the instructor will send a cancellation notification via text, with rain dates scheduled for May 18 and May 19. All attendees will need to sign a waiver before the event, with the aim of distributing it electronically beforehand.
