The novella tells the story of a young man who, transformed overnight into a giant beetle-like insect, becomes an object of disgrace to his family, an outsider in his own home, a quintessentially alienated man. Read Kafka's harrowing—though absurdly comic—meditation on human feelings of inadequacy, guilt, and isolation, in the context of Jorge Satorre's new exhibition. Pencil on paper drawings depict a surreal scene of a large gathering of insects populating the Temple Bar Gallery + Studios exhibition space from the perspectives of internal CCTV cameras, the building’s exterior as a maquette, and an insects-eye view. The event will start with a brief tour of each exhibition, followed by a group discussion, led by Anna Maye and Sadbh O’Brien (TBG+S). The discussion will focus on the various shared concepts and thematic approaches between the artist and the author, and their effect on the reader.
