Studio scenes provided an accurate portrayal of the identity, personality, tastes and social status of artists. The studio was not only a creative milieu, a classroom filled with students and a workshop for executing monumental commissions but perhaps even an enigmatic or mundane venue for amorous rendezvous, receptions and masquerades.
