Set in the breathtaking landscape of Tasmania’s majestic north-west, Where the Birds Call Her Name is a moving and evocative novel of family bonds and betrayals. Intertwining stories from 1968 and 2023, Saskia seeks the truth about her mother’s mysterious past, accompanied by her young daughter Anouk who shares her late grandmother’s fascination with birds. In the process of solving the puzzle of her mother’s childhood, Saskia also rediscovers who she really is and a truth she never knew she was searching for. Claire Van Ryn is a writer and journalist who lives in Tasmania, her love of Australia’s southernmost island state evident in her novels. Claire will be joining us at our Helensvale Library as part of her national tour.
