Designed to be as interactive as it is inspiring, the day’s programme combines keynote talks, dynamic panels, creative installations, and practical breakout sessions to foster growth, community, and actionable insight.
Kicking off with a high-energy networking game, Referee Bingo, the morning transitions into a keynote exploring EDI strategies that translate into tangible leadership outcomes, followed by a state-of-play panel moderated by BAMREF Chairman Darren Lewis. The conversation unpacks both the progress and persistent gaps in the game, offering bold strategies for structural change.
Mid-morning features an immersive installation—Wall of Reflection—where personal stories of resilience are shared, reminding attendees of the quiet strength it takes to remain in the game. A youth-led session builds a toolkit for resilient refereeing, capturing crowd-sourced wisdom for future generations.
The afternoon blends play and provocation, from a lighthearted refereeing twist on Simon Says, to Referees in the Spotlight, a discussion on referee visibility and cultural impact. A second keynote confronts the overlooked barriers faced by Black, Asian, and Mixed Heritage women in sport, offering a call to structural redesign over symbolic gestures.
Attendees then dive into tailored breakout sessions covering referee simulations, pitch etiquette, neurodiversity awareness, and CPR fundamentals—each equipping participants with practical tools for on- and off-field leadership.
The day concludes with a vital panel on the experiences of women in officiating, foregrounding culturally intelligent mentorship, systemic change, and the need for intersectional equity.
