Overview
We are hosting an in-person Lunch & Learn to discuss and explore community benefit activities across City departments. A team of undergraduate students from McMaster University are conducting a project in support of the City of Hamilton’s community benefits framework and existing work within the city.
This will be a chance to engage in professional development, network with colleagues, and contribute to a growing city-wide understanding of how Hamilton is driving inclusive and sustainable change.
Date: Monday, November 3rd
Time: 1:00 – 2:00 PM
Location: 1 James Street North, room 204/206
Lunch will be provided (shawarma), along with light refreshments.
Background 
Since 2018, the City of Hamilton has been considering ways to include community benefits in its projects. These benefits can include local hiring, support for small businesses, and initiatives that improve social and environmental outcomes. 
Early efforts involved pilot projects and the formation of a sub-committee to guide this work. Although some activities were paused during the pandemic, they helped lay the foundation for future progress. 
In 2023, the Community Benefits Protocol Sub-Committee began meeting with three main objectives: 
Develop a protocol for prioritizing Community Benefits Agreements (CBAs) in Hamilton
Explore opportunities for Social Procurement in publicly funded tenders
Create a platform to inform, connect, and promote CBAs across the city
