Experience an intimate and heartfelt exploration of grief and loss with artists Chris Alton and Emily Simpson at the Conversations about Loss, through Textiles event. After personally encountering the lack of opportunities for open conversations about grief, Chris Alton and Emily Simpson have joined forces to create a collaborative art experience that aims to combat isolation and provide support for those living with loss. Join them for an engaging dialogue and a therapeutic sewing session.

During this workshop, participants will be guided through the process of creating a wearable patch, inspired by historical customs for grieving. No prior knowledge or experience with textiles is necessary as basic sewing skills will be shared, and all materials will be provided. Alternatively, participants are welcome to bring their own materials.

Please note that spaces are limited to 12 participants, so it is important to book your attendance only if you are certain you can join. Chris Alton, an artist based in Manchester, employs various mediums, including socially engaged projects, video essays, textile banners, and publications, to address interconnected concerns such as the climate crisis and Britain's colonial history. Emily Simpson, an artist, curator, and workshop facilitator, explores themes of love, loss, and humor through textiles, writing, zines, print-making, and curation, with a special focus on the non-binary perspective.

This event is open to individuals aged 18 and above. Parents and carers are welcome to bring their dependents if it enables their attendance. The 422 building, located at 422 Stockport Road in Longsight, is fully accessible, with a passenger lift, reserved parking spaces for Blue Badge holders, and accessible toilets and baby changing facilities.
