"Duoyunxuan Woodblock Watermark Shanghai School Masters Exhibition" opens in Dubai
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the UAE. Under the guidance of the Shanghai Municipal People's Government Information Office, supported by the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC) and Bank of Communications, and hosted by Duoyunxuan Group, the "Charming Shanghai" city image overseas promotion event - "Duoyunxuan Woodblock Watermark Shanghai School Masters Exhibition" kicked off at the Dubai International Financial Center on November 1, local time.
The highlight of this exhibition is the twelve-view screen "Ren Bonian Group of Immortals Celebrating Birthday", which was carved and printed by Duoyunxuan after eight years of work. It was first unveiled at the 2010 Shanghai World Expo and attracted widespread attention. It was then exhibited as a "Shanghai business card" at heavyweight exhibitions such as the China International Import Expo and the Zhejiang Art Museum. This trip to the Middle East is the first overseas exhibition of the twelve-view screen.
The "Group of Immortals Celebrating Birthday" is 2.08 meters high and 7.2 meters wide. It uses more than 2,000 woodblocks. It is printed on gold paper with traditional Chinese pigments such as cinnabar, azurite, malachite, and clam powder. It is colorful and magnificent. The picture depicts the Queen Mother of the West in ancient Chinese mythology, who held a "Peach Feast" in Yaochi and received congratulations from all directions. The Chinese regard the "Peach Feast" of the Queen Mother of the West as a sign of longevity and shared happiness. Duoyunxuan used this "Group of Immortals Celebrating Birthday" to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Arab countries.
Also on display are the "Shanghai Flower and Bird Painting" series, which was specially created for Duoyunxuan woodblock watermarks by Shanghai painters such as Tang Yun and Xie Zhiliu in the 1960s and 1970s, the woodblock watermarks of Wu Changshuo, Xu Beihong, and Liu Haisu, and the woodblock watermarks of Hongyi's calligraphy works "Fu" and "Shou". The exhibition will last from November 1st to November 30th. Dooyunxuan Group will hold a "Shanghai Culture Appreciation Salon" at the exhibition site at the end of November to further interpret Shanghai culture and the Shanghai brand to the Arab world.
