Spanning 2,000 years of surfing history, the exhibition spans from the earliest stories of surfing spirits to contemporary artwork and surfing innovations through the lens of 13 modern-day Kānaka 'Ōiwi creative and cultural practitioners. Providing a cyclical narrative rooted in culture while addressing the complex relationship between surfing's Indigenous peoples and today's Western-dominated, multi-billion-dollar surfing industry, these smaller exhibits will celebrate and elevate the rich cultural heritage and legacy of the He'e Nalu.
