During this 2.5 hour workshop we’ll explore how to come up with a practical Climate Action Plan for your sports club or organisation. Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent - and you may well have noticed how this can have a significant impact on how many people get involved in your activities - perhaps because of things like waterlogged pitches or heatwaves. And whilst we can’t solve the climate crisis on our own, there are definitely things we can do as organisations. Yet it can be hard to know where to begin. With this in mind, we will: Explore the reasons why it’s important for sports clubs and organisations to take action.Understand where our main environmental impacts are - in areas such as energy use, travel and waste.Think creatively about the practical things we can do - to reduce our organisation's negative environmental impacts - and to make a positive difference in our communities too.Explore wider positive impacts from taking climate action - such as lowering your energy bills and breaking down barriers to participationFind out about sources of further support and fundingBenefits of the workshop Completely freeRefreshments and food providedExamples of best practice for sports organisationsPractical advice to fit your needs and capacityFrom experienced professionals who get resultsWho should attend Anyone involved in running or managing a sports club or community organisation in Kirklees that is: Involved in delivering any type of community sport / physical activity (can be affiliated or not affiliated to a National Governing Body)Supporting your local community as an un/constituted group, charity, social enterprise or community benefit societyGenerating an income of up to £500kWe are particularly interested in supporting volunteers, managers, staff and trustees from sports clubs running in the Kirklees area. About the session This workshop, led by Voluntary Action Leeds will be delivered by Rob Greenland, from The Social Business. Rob has worked with social enterprises and third sector organisations for over 25 years - specialising in offering support around environmental issues and climate action. He co-founded Zero Waste Leeds in 2018, and helped to set up a number of projects with social and environmental impacts, including Leeds School Uniform Exchange. He has also worked with local running clubs to look at how to reduce the environmental impacts of their activities. When not at work, he’s a keen runner - and has witnessed first-hand how extreme weather has had an impact on the races he likes to compete in. The workshop will be in person. About Sport For Good Sport for Good is a programme for people who run sports clubs and organisations in the most deprived areas of West Yorkshire to increase the resilience, engagement, sustainability and diversity of their organisation. It is delivered by the five Local Infrastructure Organisations in West Yorkshire – Third Sector Leaders Kirklees, Nova Wakefield District, Community Action Bradford & District, Voluntary Action Leeds, Voluntary & Community - and specialist partner Participate Projects. This programme is funded by West Yorkshire Combined Authority. Data from your registration form will be shared with TSL Kirklees, West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Voluntary Action Leeds.
