Join us for a fun session to discover the history of the Thames
Note that the steps at Wapping have 40cm drop to the foreshore and there is no handrail so this site may not be suitable for people with mobility issues.
A chance to get onto the foreshore at Wapping and find archaeological artefacts revealed by the River Thames. Who knows what will be discovered - smoking pipes, drainpipes, pottery, bones…? There is lots of evidence of London's past to be found. Money raised from these sessions supports the development and delivery of our schools’ programmes.
Meeting point: River View Chinese restaurant at 1 New Crane Pl, London E1W 3TS before taking the steps down onto the foreshore.
A note to our regular participants: walks on different days will start and finish at different times depending on the tide and weather conditions. See above for the times of this walk.

Booking is essential. Children must be accompanied by an adult (minimum age for children is 8 years). Maximum of 2 children per adult.

Cancellations
Full refunds for cancellations received with seven or more days notice. Cancellations received with less than seven days notice qualify for a 50% refund. Cancellation requests MUST be via email to: office@thames-explorer.org.uk

Health and Safety
We recommend you bring waterproof gloves. Although this is not compulsory it is important to cover broken skin ie eczema, cuts etc. Wear sensible footwear e.g. wellies, old trainers or walking boots – no sandals, high heels or bare feet· Please bring hand-sanitizer as there may be no local hand-washing facilities - wash your hands with soap and water at the first available opportunity·
Artefact policy
Thames Explorer developed our artefact policy almost a decade ago after seeing people removing wholesale quantities of artefacts from the foreshore. We encourage all to adhere to the following principal: that you take only photographs, knowledge and memories and not artefacts themselves. Doing this helps preserve the historic nature of the Thames foreshore and the unique experience of mudlarking.

Walking among the Egyptian mummies, I came across the glass reflection of the Rosetta Stone. Under the cold stone folds of the Parthenon sculptures, there are always tourists looking up and frozen into silhouettes. The display cabinets are more crowded than the exhibits. In the cracks of the celadon in the East Asian Hall, I caught a glimpse of my own hazy reflection - like those wandering cultural relics, with no idea when they will return.

The Buckingham Palace Changing of the Guard ceremony is a symbolic royal cultural event in London. You should occupy a favorable position in advance. At the appointed time, the guards, wearing red uniforms and bearskin hats, enter the venue to the sound of the military band &quot;God Save the King&quot;. The old and new guards take over their posts. The scene is very shocking. A large number of tourists gather outside the iron gate, vying to witness the changing of the guard ceremony of the royal guard.

Night view

I was shivering in the cold and queued for 40 minutes. I spent all the money I saved by booking tickets online on hot cocoa. My feet were numb when the glass cabin rose to the middle of the air - the Thames River was twisted into a tinfoil ribbon, and Big Ben was as small as a Lego block. The night view was really amazing. When the purple ring lit up, the whole river looked like it was splashed with fluorescent paint. When I landed, my legs were weak. I looked back and saw the purple ring that had collapsed into a rag. I thought: It was worth it, but I will buy a fast ticket next time.

Windsor Castle is a place worth punching in. Walk into the ancient castle to witness the history of the Royal British History. If you are tired, you can sit in the coffee shop in the castle. Aftertaste the luxurious buildings in the palace, wait after 3 pm. Take a few blockbusters when the light is good. You can also see the sentry changing in Windsor Castle.
