Indigo Magic with Naomi Yamamoto of Flight Path Designs
Step into the mesmerizing world of indigo dyeing with local textile artist, Naomi Yamamoto.
In this hands-on workshop, you'll explore the captivating process of Japanese indigo resist dyeing methods, utilizing tools like blocks, clamps, string, and clothes pegs to create intricate patterns on fabric.
We'll supply small fabric pieces for creating samples. We kindly ask participants to bring their own pre-washed cotton, silk, linen, or hemp materials for dyeing. This presents an excellent opportunity to reimagine and up-cycle items with the beautiful blue of Indigo. To ensure sufficient space in the dye vat for everyone, please refrain from bringing large & bulky items(maximum 1 metre of fabric). Prepare to gain a foundational understanding of the dyeing process and craft exquisite hand-dyed pieces to cherish.
Under Naomi’s guidance, anticipate an event brimming with alchemy, experimentation, and joyful creativity.
Materials to Bring:
 Pre-washed cotton, silk, linen, or hemp materials for dyeing(maximum 1 metre of fabric). Ensure all items undergo pre-washing with a gentle detergent to remove any chemicals that may interfere with the dyeing process. Dress in workshop-ready attire, and if available, bring an apron to protect your clothing.
IMPORTANT
Blank dye-able items such as cotton shawls, silk scarves, and bamboo socks are available for 
pre-purchase.

Standing on the top of the park, you can see downtown Burnaby and the mountains in the distance, as well as downtown Vancouver, Stanley Park and the Lions Gate Bridge. The park is rich in vegetation, and you can smell the fresh air of the pine forest while walking along the forest trails. The park is famous for the Kamui Mintara sculptures created by Japanese sculptor Nuburi Toko and his son, which symbolize the harmonious unity of humans, animals, nature and God. The sculpture group consists of 29 hand-carved logs with animal images such as brown bears, owls, salmon and killer whales engraved on them.

Deer Lake Park

If you are looking for a good place to relax around Vancouver, Deer Lake Park in Burnaby is definitely worth a visit! It is like a paradise in the city, with beautiful lakes and mountains.
There is a flat wooden boardwalk around the lake, which is perfect for walking, jogging, or enjoying nature with children and pets. The lake is sparkling, seagulls and mallards are playing in the water, and snow-capped mountains are looming in the distance. The park is free, the lawn is suitable for picnics, and kayaks can be rented on the lake. In spring, flowers are in full bloom, rhododendrons are particularly romantic, and outdoor concerts in summer are even more lively. Especially in autumn, Deer Lake is even more beautiful, and it is a great place to enjoy maple leaves around Vancouver. Parking at Deer Lake is also very convenient, highly recommended!

Central Park

Central Park in Burnaby is a free public facility built for local residents. It has a small golf course, tennis courts, a children&#39;s play area, and several kilometers of trails. The park is densely populated with trees and there are many waterfowl around two small ponds. It is a great place for walking and jogging.
