This event is the first in a series of workshops LSE Religion and Global Society are facilitating in collaboration with local London councils through a 12-month project ‘Harnessing Faith in Local Climate Policy,’ funded by the LSE Engagement & Partnership Fund.
It also supports Barnet Council’s sustainability teams efforts to work alongside community groups to support them on their journey to becoming a net zero borough by 2042.
The event will comprise brief presentations on the research and work of LSE RGS and local engagement efforts by Barnet Council. Following these introductory remarks will be two rounds of small group discussion focusing on the importance of collaboration between council officials and faith leaders on co-producing environmental policies and building climate resilience.
Participants will not be expected to prepare anything in advance. Instead, through an innovative model of community engagement centred around facilitated groups discussions and reflections on theological and scriptural motivations for climate action, we will explore best practices for overcoming challenges building faith-inclusive climate policy frameworks and identify opportunities for collaboration going forward.
In convening diverse climate stakeholders for discussions on collaborative environmental policymaking, this workshop will also inform the development of a toolkit to guide local climate policy development in collaboration with faith communities to be released in 2026.
