The Japanese Culture Center in Chicago is delighted to announce the return of the highly anticipated 6 Week Ikenobo Ikebana Course, led by esteemed Ikenobo Senior Professor Charles Harris. This Introduction to Ikebana Flower Arrangement class is scheduled to commence on Sunday, February 18, 2024, from 4:00-5:00pm. The comprehensive course fee of $220 covers all essential materials, including flowers and tools. Upon completion, participants will have the opportunity to take home the tools and continue their practice independently. Please note that due to limited capacity, early registration is strongly recommended to secure a spot in this prestigious course. The minimum attendance requirement is 6 students.

During this transformative 6-week experience, students will have the privilege of learning from Professor Charles Harris, the esteemed President of the Chicago Chapter of the Ikenobo Ikebana Society. Ikenobo, the origin of ikebana, has a rich history dating back 550 years. This revered art form originated in Kyoto, Japan, as a Buddhist floral offering in the Rokkakudo Temple. Over the years, Ikenobo has been passed down from generation to generation and has gained global recognition. The Chicago Chapter, established in 1965 by Professor Ikka Nakashima, is one of the oldest ikebana organizations in North America. In recognition of her contributions to Japanese arts and culture, Professor Nakashima was personally presented with the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays, by the Emperor of Japan in 2006. Professor Harris assumed her responsibilities in 2013.

Grant Park is also a good place to visit for free. The most common people you see are locals doing outdoor sports. Running is very popular and can be seen at different times of the day. There are also some people walking their dogs.
