The karambit is a special double-edged curved dagger, shaped like a tiger's talon. Originally designed for utility and self-defence, the karambit’s curved blade, ergonomic grip and signature safety ring for weapon-retention, make it a powerful tool for close combat and tactical applications. Note: The content of this Workshop will be different from that taught at the Karambit Workshop on 10 May 2025 at Billy Manne Martial Arts - we will be working on different attacks, entries and finishes! So if you attended the Karambit Workshop on 10 May, you're welcome to attend this Workshop on 26 July 2025 and continue your learning and development. What you will learn at this Workshop: ✅ History & Origins – Explore the karambit’s roots in South-East Asia and its evolution in modern martial arts ✅ Grip & Handling – Practice different grips and transitions for varying ranges and applications ✅ Targeting – Develop slashing, thrusting, hooking skills for different targets ✅ Takedowns – Learn how to use the karambit for weapon-assisted takedowns ✅ Safe Practice & Application – Work with training karambits under professional guidance (no live blades will be used at the Workshop) Who the Workshop is for: This Workshop is suitable for beginners, martial artists, martial arts instructors, and stunt actors who love weapons training, and are keen to integrate weapons into their existing skillset in a fun, friendly, safe yet exciting training environment! No prior experience required - just a willingness to learn! Bookings are Essential! The minimum age for participants is 18 years. If you are under the age of 18 years and you train at Combat Academy, you must have permission from a parent/guardian and Combat Academy to participate. Your Instructor - Kacey Chong Kacey’s journey in martial arts began at age 5 when she was introduced to martial arts by her father. Born in Malaysia and raised in Melbourne, Australia, Kacey has a diverse background in martial arts, combat sport, combatives and personal protection, bringing a wealth of knowledge and insight to her role as an instructor.  Her training encompasses a wide array of disciplines, including sport and traditional TaeKwonDo, Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, Filipino Martial Arts (Eskrima-Kali-Arnis), Silat, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Bruce Lee’s Jeet Kune Do Concepts, providing her students with a comprehensive understanding of both armed and unarmed combat. She has taught members of the military and police force, as well as prison officers and security personnel; trained, coached and mentored martial arts competitors and combat sport fighters; delivered specialist programs for corporate groups, women’s groups and sporting groups; officiated at martial arts tournaments; and served as the Victorian State Technical Director of the largest martial arts tournament in Australia (National All Styles Championships), providing training and support for judges and referees at the tournament. Beyond the mat, Kacey is passionate about empowering women and vulnerable populations with the knowledge, skills and confidence to protect themselves. Through private training, workshops and courses, she strives to make self-defence education accessible to everyone, regardless of their background or experience. With over three decades of expertise under her belt, Kacey continues to be a driving force in the world of martial arts, inspiring and empowering people through martial arts excellence.
