We're so excited to host the first Key of She live showcase, which is a chance for women, and gender minority musicians and sound practitioners in Sheffield to share their musical practice in a live performance setting. There will also be live improvisations throughout the evening which is really exciting! There will also be vegetarian and vegan food available, free to performers and avaialble to all for a small PAYF donation. The event will be open to anyone interested in being part of the night, but women and marginalised genders only will be invited to perform, as this is the focus of Key of She's work. Tickets are Pay As You Feel, Free, or if you like can include a meal. All proceeds from the event will contribute to the future of Key of She, so we are able to continue to provide free musical improvisation workshops, jams and sound baths to women and marginalised genders in Sheffield. Are you a musician looking for opportunities to perform? Have you come along to a Key of She jam, or are you curious to come and play? Maybe you’ve come up with a project or a musical idea or collaboration after meeting someone at one of the jams? If so, we’d love to invite you to be part of our first ever Key of She Showcase and take a performance slot to show us your thing, whether you’re a singer/songwriter, a free jazz improviser, or love playing with loops and pedals, we want to see you do your thing. The showcase will include a mixture of your performances and the kind of musical improvisation you might be more familiar with from the KoS jams. This is an opportunity to celebrate what happens when space is made for people to come together in a playful, creative way. Who are Key of She? KOS was set up in 2021 to empower women and minority genders to pursue their creativity in safe spaces, and integrate them into creative music spaces that have been and are typically male-dominated. To help redress the gender imbalance within the music industry by providing paid opportunities for women and minority gender artists based in Sheffield, or the North; and free educational opportunities for those developing their creativity. We run : MONTHLY JAM NIGHTS - the night features a 'fireside chat' with a guest of honour (North-based female/trans/non-binary artist) followed by improv sessions with attendees of all abilities & instruments. WORKSHOPSS - To supplement the nights & cultivate people's music improv development we run regular workshops. Themes include improv 101 & advanced improv, vocals, keys, drums/percussion, free improv & interdisciplinary improv. LISTENING NIGHTS- We host therapeutic listening nights with Pauline Oliveros’ Deep Listening exercises in exciting spaces across the city of Sheffield. Every year when snooker is played, the BBC will do a live show here. There is a table next to it, with two balls in each pocket. You are given a few shots to clear the table. If you clear the table, you will have the opportunity to compete with a famous snooker player.
