What to Expect
Join us for an intimate and informative session with Ally Vijay, founder of Babies BelliesW, as she introduces the age-old Malay practice of bengkung—a traditional postpartum belly binding method used to support new mothers during their recovery. Rooted in centuries of Malay healing wisdom, bengkung helps realign the body after childbirth, supports the womb, improves posture, and encourages overall physical and emotional healing. Ally will share her own journey into the world of traditional postpartum care, how she came to learn the art of bengkung, and why this practice still matters today.
Participants will get a first-hand look at the components of a traditional bengkung set, watch a live demonstration of the belly binding technique, and learn about its benefits from both cultural and physiological perspectives. This is also a chance to ask questions and reflect on how traditional wisdom can support modern motherhood. Whether you're a parent, caregiver, or simply curious about postpartum practices in the Malay tradition, this session promises to be both grounding and eye-opening.
About Meet My Craftsman
From the soothing touch of a traditional Javanese masseuse helping a new mother regain her strength, to the gentle folds of a child’s first saree, or the lovingly hand-stitched chouchou, our constant companion from childhood—our first journeys through life are often accompanied by the care and craftsmanship of those who make these moments tangible.
Meet My Craftsman is a celebration of the crafts, rites, and rituals that mark the beginning of life. On the theme of My First Journeys, this programme explores the many ways communities across Singapore commemorate milestones such as the birth of a child, the first month, first year, or first rite of passage. These early steps are steeped in meaning—often marked with traditional foods, handmade tokens, and symbolic objects that express hope, protection, and joy.
From practical postpartum traditions like Javanese massage and herbal care, to edible celebrations like Ang Ku Kueh (red tortoise cake given during a baby’s first month) and Yi Bua (a steamed coconut glutinous rice dumpling from the Hainanese community), each object or treat carries with it a deeper cultural resonance. Clothing, too, becomes a marker of growth and identity—like the physical and symbolic meaning of sarees in the Indian community, handmade and passed down through generations.
Many of these traditional ways of welcoming and celebrating new life are fading in today’s fast-paced world. Through demonstrations, conversations, and hands-on experiences, Meet My Craftsman shines a spotlight on the artisans and practitioners who keep these customs alive. Join us as we meet the craftspeople who have helped generations begin their life journeys with care, meaning, and beauty. Slow down be reminded of the objects, gestures, and traditions that make our earliest memories so deeply treasured.
About the Organisation
Babies-Bellies offers blissful pre- and postnatal massages, providing personalized care either at their spa or in the comfort of clients’ homes.
They are known for delivering premium services at competitive rates, ensuring exceptional value for every stage of the maternity wellness journey.
With over seventeen years of experience in the industry, Babies-Bellies is supported by a team of skilled therapists, each bringing between 4 to 25 years of professional expertise. All therapists are certified and have undergone in-house training to ensure consistency in massage techniques and product use, maintaining the highest standards of care.
Meet your Host
Ally is the founder of a homegrown wellness business that began in 2008, rooted in a deep personal need and a university project that planted the seeds of entrepreneurship. While pursuing her degree in Entrepreneurship at SIM, Ally drew from her own experience of struggling to find reliable postnatal care—particularly a tukang urut—during her pregnancy. That challenge became the inspiration for a service that has since helped countless women navigate their postnatal journey.
Before stepping into business, Ally served as a police officer with the Singapore Police Force and was deployed with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force to Timor Leste and Cambodia. Her disciplined, service-oriented background continues to inform the care and professionalism she brings to her work today.
She started by offering traditional Javanese massage, but soon found herself facing stiff competition. Recalling her earlier academic project, she recognised an untapped opportunity—postnatal recovery, especially in addressing issues like tummy separation (diastasis recti), which at the time was not well understood in the mainstream. Through her practice, she’s witnessed firsthand how informed, gentle care can transform not just bodies but lives.
Many of Ally’s clients come to her not only for physical recovery, but also for emotional support as they cope with anxiety and depression—struggles Ally herself has faced and empathises with. Her ability to connect deeply with her clients has built a loyal customer base, with some returning even after their fourth child. Though still a small business, her work thrives on heartfelt recommendations and word of mouth—testament to the trust and healing she continues to foster in the community.

Everyone is welcome to participate! Participants 12 years and under must be accompanied and supervised by a parent/guardian at all times.

Participants should dress comfortably and come in covered shoes.
Participants should bring along an umbrella and a bottle of water.
Please ensure that you bring along any personal medication. Asthmatic individuals are reminded to bring their inhaler.

The venue is not wheelchair friendly.

Sentosa Island is very good, the theme park has more projects, Jurassic Park, Xiaohuangren, etc. On the island, the ecology is mainly good, there are many birds, and I have seen seagulls, peacocks and lizards.
