Newport Theater presents the Clowning Fundamentals course, suitable for both beginners and those looking to further develop their skills. This mixed-level class will take place at The Newport Theater in Chicago every Sunday from 10am to 12pm, starting on January 14th and ending on March 3rd. The final session will include a Student Showcase on Sunday, March 17th. With a maximum of 15 participants, this course will be led by the experienced instructor, Journey Maranto. The cost for the entire 8-week session is $160, which breaks down to just $20 per class.

Clowning is an art form that delves into the human experience, using personal connection, physical comedy, and the exploration of failure. However, it is much more than that. It can evoke childlike wonder, unadulterated joy, and even deep sadness. In this course, participants will have the opportunity to discover their own clown persona and explore how they navigate the unpredictable world of clowning. Through a series of physical theater exercises, group explorations, and plenty of play, students will be challenged to embrace vulnerability and failure, all while staying true to themselves.

This course is designed for individuals who are new to clowning and wish to learn the basics of the art form. The aim is to create an inclusive and welcoming environment that is open to anyone interested in clowning. Join us at Newport Theater to embark on this transformative and playful journey.
