Join photographer, Carmen Therriault, for an immersive night sky photography field session, where you’ll learn how to capture the magic of the stars and Milky Way. Set against a scenic, low-light location, this hands-on workshop will guide participants through the fundamentals of astrophotography—including camera settings, composition techniques, and how to focus in the dark. Carmen will share tips on working with long exposures, managing light pollution, and incorporating foreground elements for dramatic, storytelling images.
Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this session is a fantastic opportunity to practice under the stars with personalized guidance from an experienced night sky photographer.
Please bring: 
A DSLR or mirrorless camera that is capable of manual setting changes
Tripod
Wide-angle lens (preferably with a fast aperture of f2.8 or wider)
Extra batteries
Memory card(s)
A headlamp or flashlight (preferably with a red light mode)
Weather-appropriate clothing & comfortable footwear
A remote shutter release or intervalometer (optional but helpful)

Carmen’s formal education and background are in teaching elementary school. Her years spent of observing the natural creativity and curiosity of children has influenced her approach to exploring and capturing the natural world. Her experience as a teacher helps her to lead engaging photography workshops with clarity and individualized attention. 
Carmen is committed to continually learning and growing as an artist and has had opportunities to study under several well-known Canadian photographers, including fine art photographer 
Lee Nordbye
. Their teachings have helped her to elevate her art and to develop her own voice and style in the field of photography.
 
She has had numerous pieces of her work exhibited in galleries in Red Deer, Alberta and also in Calgary, Alberta as part of the Exposure Photography Festival. Carmen has won several awards for her work including a first place Astrophotography award (Lightchasers Photography Conference) and Runner-up  in Wildlife and Landscape (Calgary Stampede, Photographers’ Showcase). This recognition has truly been an honour for Carmen. 
Carmen loves to share her knowledge and passion for exploring the outdoors through her articles and images which have been published by Our Canada, and More of Our Canada magazines. 
Through her unique perspective and unwavering passion, Carmen Therriault continues to captivate audiences with her evocative landscapes and celestial nightscapes, inviting viewers to see the world with fresh perspectives.
