Tourism Kamloops is excited to host our second Respectful Communication Workshop in the community.
Join us for a morning with Mental Heath Training and Education expert, Christa Haywood-Farmer.
Respectful communication is usually something we take for granted. In this two-hour workshop, you will learn about the complexity of communication and how our words and behaviours directly impact response, relationship, and workplace. Respectful communication is essential for building helping relationships and maintaining a healthy environment.
Participants will have an opportunity to:
Recognize different methods of communication
Explore approaches to responding
Practice active listening techniques
Role play through specific scenarios related to work within community
Identify available and accessible community resources
Participant take away:
Defining respectful communication and expectations is critical
Language is powerful and matters; it shapes our reactions and our perceptions
Respectful interactions reduce the risk of escalation
Awareness of personal responsibility and a consistent approach
Miscommunication, misinterpretation and lack of communication contributes to conflict
