Join us for a screening and discussion of PhD film انتي صامدة (She the Steadfast) (49 mins, 2023) with filmmaker Joy Stacey, in partnership with Sussex Centre for Cultural Studies and the Middle East and North Africa Centre at Sussex. In Arabic and English with English subtitles. Developed with Palestinian women living in the West Bank between 2016-2022, She the Steadfast stitches together five collaborative women's theatre performances with patchwork clips of archival materials from Palestine, Palestinian diaspora and international media, presenting a layered history of gender and identities in occupied Palestine to up to 2022. This film has been amended post-submission to incorporate new archival materials generously shared by the UNRWA photo and film archive for Palestine refugees, Gaza. This screening will be followed with a conversation with the filmmaker. Donations to Medical Aid for Palestinians would be very much appreciated.
