Get to grips with the basics of sewing and make something unique for yourself, a friend, or a loved one.
About this course
Led by Stitchery Founder Cassandra Belanger, this weekend workshop is designed to give you a comprehensive introduction to the wonderful world of sewing and equip you with foundational skills that can be applied to a range of projects.
Learn how to use a sewing machine; discover different fabric types and terminology; practice stitches and seams, seam finishes, topstitching, hems, buttonholes, and zippers. Then harness your new found skills to create something special from a selection of mini projects including a tote bag, cushion cover, apron, or make-up purse.
Skill Level & Sewing Machines
This is a Pure Beginner level course, which means it's suitable for absolute beginners, or anyone who wants to firm up on the basics. The setting for this course is the relaxing, social atmosphere of The Stitchery Studio, which comes fully equipped with a sewing machine for each student (you are welcome to bring your own if you like!).
Outcomes
An understanding of basic sewing techniques
One (or more!) finished items, made by you, in a fabric and styling of your choice.
A 
Sewing for Beginners
 e-book, with the instructions for all projects - so that you can go and make more!
A sample book with all your learned techniques, for future reference.
Booking Your Place
To book your place on this course, you will pay a non-refundable Booking Deposit of £50 through this Eventbrite page. This Booking Deposit goes towards course fees however, the 
remaining balance is due no later that two weeks PRIOR to course start.
 
Once you’ve booked a place on the course, you will receive the details to bank transfer the final amount. We do it this way to avoid additional external fees. Please familiarise yourself with our

About Your Tutor
Cassandra Belanger (she/her) has 14 years of experience working in sustainable design, textiles and garment construction with a Masters in Fashion + Textiles focussing on zero waste design. Her work is an invitation to a more sustainable future and education is at the centre of her creative practice. She is the Founder of The Stitchery Studio, Co-Founder of the 
Zero Waste Design Collective
 and Founding Member of 
Sustainable Fashion Scotland
. She was the Resident Sewing Instructor at the Central Scottish School of Craft and previously a Fashion and Textile Lecturer at Glasgow West College. Her research interests centre around sustainable fashion and textile design education and fashion systems for a post growth economy. Her design and teaching practice explores issues such as zero waste, waste colonialism, transparency, feminism, sizeism, and body image. Cassandra is committed to decolonising her teaching practice.

Cancellation & Course Fees Refund
Please be aware that there is a £50 non-refundable booking fee included in the cost of this ticket. This means that if you need to cancel your booking more than 14-days PRIOR to the ticketed session you will be able to receive a partial refund of £175. After that date, partial refunds are not guaranteed so please get in touch so we can discuss your situation.
If for any reason you change your mind and need to cancel your booking, please email us (info@thestitcherystudio@gmail.com) immediately so that we can release your place to someone on the waiting list.

This is simply a dream castle. When I arrived, it was the April holiday, and there were almost no people on the road. Only the ancient buildings stood in the cold air, solemn and heavy, which made people feel awe.

We came here on a spontaneous visit one Sunday afternoon in January and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our wee boy loved seeing the &ldquo;old fashioned house&rdquo; and was so well looked after by all the staff, from the cash register to the flat and back out again.

We went round twice (with a shift change between visits!) and the insight into one story of no doubt thousands like it in Glasgow was fantastic. Plus our boy thoroughly enjoyed colouring in his wallie dug. A hidden gem that is well worth the wander through Garnethill.

This museum is a place where people have to punch in. I especially like the oil paintings in the museum. After seeing it, I feel a great enjoyment. The museum is also a favorite place for primary and secondary school students.

Glasgow Cathedral

It is said that it can be traced back to the famous William Conquest period. It was built to commemorate St. Diego. It took hundreds of years to build and has been around for nearly a thousand years. It is the oldest religious building in the entire Scottish region. It is also a must-see for tourists.

George Square

Peggy 

George Square is located in Glasgow city center and is very conveniently accessible by train or subway. On nice days, you can sunbathe and watch pigeons in the square. It is close to the famous shopping street, where you can buy souvenirs, clothes, shoes and socks. There are also many restaurants and eateries to choose from. 
George Square is a must-see attraction. In addition to admiring the architecture of the square;during different festivals, such as Christmas, the square is built into a Christmas Market, becoming a dynamic and happy atmosphere.
